Nikon D300 / D3 what effect on Canon?

Hmm … interesting discussion here … well guessing from the Canon's line of thinking …they simply have to place the new 5D right in between the 2 Nikon new models (spec. and price wise) to take care of things … e.g. maybe 15.6MP (cannot be more than the 1dsmk2 rite?), around +/- 3.5K price wise (average), a almost weather sealed configuration (cannot surpasss the 1-series rite?), 7fps (cannot be more that 1dmk2n or mk3 rite?) and perhaps 26 ½ focus points ([7+19]/2 plus a little bit of perks :) ... that’s it liao … why?… well … the 1K +/- differences to a FF with more MP etc. will make the potential D200 buyer think twice and 2K+/- difference with more MP etc. will make the potential D3 buyer think 3 times … so… kekekeke

A thread such as this, comparing Nikon & Canon, & then you get ppl coming in to be very defensive abt their likings & preferences for which brand, which brand... i dun want to read liao... :bsmilie: I just came in here to post this.

Better make a more reliable shutter/mirror assembly too instead of just using glue.

They really have to beat the features set of D300, especially note that D300 is using the same AF as D3. And if that AF trounces Canon, it's one hell of a coup as Canon stronghold have been sports where AF is critical. Adding salt to the wound would be the recent fiasco of 1Dm3 AF problems.

I will check on that tomorrow...keep my finger cross...

:bsmilie: :bsmilie: tat battle since 1992 between them is also coming to an end in 2007... 15 yrs... The 2 new ones upcoming is going to take slightly different directions so they dun head on clash with each other again... Mitsubishi Motor company left WRC now & is less interested to have direct confrontations with Subaru now i think...

AF on D300 and D3 is different.

Luckily, my 5D glue is still holding up well so far …. kekeke

Agree they should work on the AF performance part for the MkIII or Mk IIIn.

Matching spec. wise …I suspect Canon may be targeting on specific segments e.g. sports, fashion or studio etc. rather camera features generically...

Man, I'm a Canon user and the D300 specs really blew me off my chair...

What's next Nikon? I'm afraid the next release will allow the cam to transform!

Kudos to Nikon for pushing the market again :D

my 350D :( any takers?

From what I understand, they are the same. If you go through the presentation slides linked in the Nikon subforum, it does not make any distinction that they are different.

Yeah, because it's designed for 3fps. but if they want to push the fps to match Nikon's offering, then glue might not be an option anymore.

One of the remarks I found most interesting though, I heard offline the night before, when a Nikon exec said that they'd "breathed a huge sigh of relief" when they saw Canon's announcements of this Monday. It's clear that Canon is feeling the pressure, I've never seen them announce a product as far in advance of availability as is the case with the 1Ds Mark III, and the advances in their line appear much more incremental than those just announced by Nikon. Canon's very clearly not a company to be counted out, and I suspect it'll only be a matter of time before the see-saw tips back in Canon's favor, but Nikon execs went so far as to say that they think they have at least two years before their sharpest competitor catches up.

2 years... hahaha... pretty true for the 40D, 1D and 1Ds unless Canon breaks the 18months cycle.

Time to bring the digital equivilant of EOS3 and throw in all else they can into the sucessor of 5D and a very competitive price point.

Think everyone knows that the canon marketing, R&D and PR department is going to get hell after the unveiling of the new nikons...

Look at it this way - its a positive push for the better. I still agree that canon has been "resting on their laurels" too long ... now nikon comes and slaps them in the face ala the Bunny VS the Tortoise.

If your current camera still takes the pictures you desire and you're not reaching "the limits" of your camera... why bother to change?

Keeping up on DSLRs is like PCs .. its a neverending upgrade.

True... I would consider nikon if I'm only using a entry level camera + lens... But now...
