which 1.7TC you using ?
I don't have any TC now nor any prime 300mm. I just got myself into Nikon with a D7100 for birding. But to answer I would be using Nikon TC one if I do get the 300mm.
There are several versions of nikon TC. Ver 3 of the 2x and 1.4x are out. 1.7x is still on version 2.
I strongly recommend getting the latest versions to match with the newest lenses.
