Nikon 70-300 or?

The AF-D lenses, you can use a Kenko TC. which I sold a 2x for $100.

But what do you gain? you gain a F2.8 capability, which makes the 80-200 an excellent portrait lens and events. If you use a x1.7 TC, your focal length becomes 340mm max aperture is still at F4.5. Whereas, on the 70-300, at 300mm you are already at F5.6. Even if you use the x2 TC on the 80-200 giving your 400mm, your max aperture still matches the 70-300mm max aperture at 300mm.

you gain so much more in terms of uses, as well as options.

If you can't, move to mirrorless, or superzooms. They are getting very very capable nowadays.

No point going into DSLR and complain it is heavy.

Don't think can

TC comes with screw drive coupling. Full functions available INCLUDING AF.

Guys, at least do a quick google before jumping to conclusions la.

It is not about being friendly or unfriendly. Don't have to be so sensitive and emo. If you complain it is heavy, we are just suggesting you should move to a different format to solve that weight problem. Isn't that the logical thing to do? Nikon as other format as well,... Nikon 1, Coolpix cams.. etc.

Yes, i do agreed that some AF-D(especially primes) on certain bodies focusing is faster.
however TS is looking at 70-200/70-300 lens range, so it have to depends on his/her budget and carry load.
Either original or 3rd party lenses will give good results in some way and depends on individual preference/liking.

There are good primes in the long range as well, in AFD, AFS and Ai/Ais mounts..

Yap, just like me D700 + 700-200 (believe in whatever flavor)... the combination is heavy.... add a flash... damn..... but got to find way and means... get use to it after a while..... if really cannot get use to such weight..... Bro DD say... better to move to smaller system.... else you wont enjoy shooting anymore... everytime is a hassle and a pain and the usage get lesser and lesser.... then it become a very expensive paper weight at home....
