Thank you for all yr replies. I think so also with Tamron 2.8 which should be sufficient. Even at 1.8 DOF is rather thin. My 50mm is a AFD. The trouble is this forum is poisonous after reading it the bbb virus bites again.

Af 50 f/1.8d is cheap to keep. That why I ask if if its afs or afd :)

If can afford, get a prime lens 35mm f/1.4g :p

35mm F1.8 is made in China, not related to Thailand flood

So every parts of the lens and materials are found in china? It's more complicated than that..

Its just a lens.. Not rocket science.. How complicated can it be?

Well, I doubt anything would come in from China anyway, now that the "mad rush" month has started...

Btw, the 35mm at Camera workshop, are with only store warranty, not local warranty.

Yes it not rocket science, but common sense will tell us, not all parts are made in china.

As far as I understand, whatever products (not just lenses), when imprinted, 'made in xxxxx', it only means up to a certain % of the parts (not sure of the exact %, but could be like 50-60%? Or less?), are truly made and assemblied in 'xxxxxx'. (in this case china). The motor could be made in thailand, the IC could be made in malaysia, the pcb could be xxxx, and so on.....

I know Swiss watches too have parts made in china.. Ever read an article about it.. That's why some of their A grade stuff are almost close to the real stuff.. Cos they pick-up their technology..

With all parts coming from various places, one screw up will hinder the supply chain. And it's not possible for them to find another factory easily to produce the missing component as they cannot compromise the quality.

ya lor... that is the point I was trying to get across earlier.

Manufacturing giants often have rather complicated logistical arrangements for their raw material and warehousing. Hardly anyone can clam to know their structure unless they are an employee in that particular job area.
Therefore it is incorrect to imply that problems in 1 geographical area have nothing to do with supply of product that is 'Made in ___ (another area)'

It is truly naive to think that "Made in Country A" means all items are manufactured and assembled in Country A, and that warehousing is also done at Country A.

Don't think will be in time for Chinese New Year already.haha.
Guess maybe only in Feb or Mar then there will be stocks. All those shops also say they do not know when it will come.

A lot of fake watches now uses genuine movements made by ETA (which makes the majority of swiss movements in the world). So how to tell sometimes? Only way is to understand the exact movement of the watch you are buying, and know how they look and work. BTW ETA movements can be had for as low as $20... many brands uses them. Eg is swatch... Because Swatch owns ETA now.

Erm.. Actually it not 'fake', think it this way, same OE factory, but just a re-brand/badge..:) which is very common now.

Had heard some talk about the 35 1.8 working on FF and met my friend with one today so took it about for abit on my d700. i'd say its actually very nice, but you start to lose the corners btwn 10m-∞, esp when stopping down. these were at 1.8; draws quite nicely.

Hi Ben, you are encouraging me to buy the lens again! Post more samples with D700 if you can, thanks!
