bought my copy with it and impressed with it's performance with the D800E. Wide open at f/1.8, it's quite sharp nearly all the way to the extreme borders!

Didn't regret bought 28mm f1.8g on my d800e.

im seriously considering get this for my proposed D600. however, was a bit disappointed to note some reviews mentioning that focus shift being a pretty annoying issue with this lens. reading the posts here have been reassuring, most of u guys seem very happy with it. is it really noticeable, and do u have to consciously work around it? im quite new to this sort of thing and im not very familiar - just see it on the reviews and worry haha.

It only a certain batch if I'm not wrong.

This is described as a pro lens by many review sites, and by Nikon themselves too. However when I hold it, only got a 4/10 pro feel.

The IQ does make up for it and for $800+, it's considered good value.

Bro Rain, just a small comment if you don't mind, the landscape shots you took with this lens in your website are too soft, and does not reflect the true capability of the lens. Did you shot them wide open or something?

The lens for some object are soft, If shots with wide open. because for the overall sharpness can be easily turn on.
is ok you welcome to be comments, when no commented how to get this improved :)

Thanks for clarification.

I asked because so far, almost all primes I have used are tack sharp when stopped down, so I just guessed that it may be the case. My usual f-stop for landscape is f9-f14 depending on situation. :)

Actually, I wonder what defines "pro".

As both a C and N user, I start to see what both camp users see.
Users of C, calls "pro" equipment if they look like bazookas and red ring. See the big lens like 200L, 85L, big big with red ring, must be pro.
Now that I am on N, I find N equipments small and nifty. My D800E + grip definitely feels smaller and lighter than 5D3 with grip or 1DX.

I'm usually a 24mm to 85mm focal length shooter, and I find the N primes performs very well, be it the f/1.4G or f/1.8G version. Definitely they don't look "big" or as "heavy" or "solid" looking than their C counter parts, but good thing is they don't come as expensive either.

The 28mm f/1.8G is a gold ring lens, the equivalent of the C's red ring, but this 28mm G is a nifty little chap that has great resolving power even on a 36MP sensor.

Come to think of it, must it appear and weigh like a "dua leng kong (Hokkien, means some humongous crap)" and have big front elements like 77-82mm filter threads to look and feel "pro"?
I'm definitely happy with my f/1.8G trio right now: 28mm f/1.8G, 50mm f/1.8G and 85mm f/1.8G

Haha, just a thought.

No la bro, it's just that in my hands, this lens feels "cheap". Like I say the IQ is quite the opposite. It's good for day to day use though.

I better don't comment on C lenses, I came from there too, else a war will start Lolz

if landscape you can refer here : Nikon AF-S 28mm f/1.8G N - VintagePhotography
cause most of my shots in original Raw setting and convert from NX capture and without edit any sharpness.

oh i see. is this confirmed, i.e. can find based on serial number or something? i hear this focus shift issue mentioned on a few reviews but not all - i'd like to make sure of this before buying though!

The lens is a gold ring lens, good iq, small in size and light in weight. Not as heavy as the f1.4 monsters.

Anyway just bought this lens on thurs but wanna ask if it is weather sealed?

Learnt from ther Nikon users here that Gold Ring lens are weather sealed.

if i not wrong pro lenses usually Constant aperture, usually fx lenses, usually with gold ring , hence has ed element(with the exceptional of the 35 f1.4 has no ed element), and nano coated. . correct me if i wrong

Half half most of zoom lens has ED element also, but not label as gold ring

Should be the "N" include gold ring.
