oh yah just in case anyone wondering i'm on MS waiting list for the next batch of 18-200 leow. they are offering me $1250 incl. gst for the lens. man its gettin cheaper and cheaper. very soon you'll see b&s flooded with it leow.

Good for you. Honestly, all these (including mine) preferences are just personal preferences. I seldom use my 80-200 / F2.8 because its bulky and heavy so even if it is sharper and faster than 18-200mm, I believe i will use 18-200mm more often. There will be a lot of instances that better (but bigger) lens are just impractical to use. So my main preference is a small, lightweight lens that can cover all range. Its up to you how you intend to use your camera and your main criteria. With VR, you may not even need the expensive 70-200 unless you have money to burn.

but you can't compare the 18-200 with the 70-200 right? :bsmilie: so are you intending to buy a 18-200 too?

what the.... consumers are always interested in how much a product costs.... why hide it man?
I agree. Design flaw, I guess. Can feedback to Nikon Singapore ... Wait patiently for your 18-200VR. Think on the bright side, later batches might be more refined after feedback from the first batch :dunno:

Definitely... already on the waiting list from CP. As I said, 70-200 is good in output quality but not as flexible as 18-200mm so I'mm gonna buy the 18-200 as well. This will be the one and only lens I need for travelling.;)

2 weeks ago john316 said approx 1 week and CP said 2 weeks. Honestly I stopped expecting when. I have done okay without this lens so I can do without for a few more weeks/months more. :) Not sure where MS is.. is this the one in AMK? Location is a bit far though.

how does a nikkor 12-24, 18-70, 70-200 combi sound?
Does not sound that good. It would be better if it were a 12-24, 24-85, 70-200. In my opinion, the 18-70 is not a very sharp lens.

Well, to non-pros like me, 18-70 is very good already

i heard 24-8 is sharper than the 24-120, and that it's a very sharp and good lens in its own class?

CP is 1280. Actually all comes from Nikon SG so once shipment arrive, all will have. But the problem is Nikon JP haven't ship out yet and ETA is as and when they feel like finishing production. So all these shops will just make assumption like next week, next 2 weeks, etc, but cannot make definite promises.

I think having the sharpest lens doesn't automatically make it the best lens except for the sharpness category. Sometimes zoom is more important than the sharpest prime. Sometimes lightweight is more important than wide apperture 80-200mm VR. So choose your favorite subject and buy from there. I don't shoot macro and I don't shoot little birds atop the tree so long sharp lenses are not my thing. I like people and cute pets so a sharp 50-85mm is ideal. I'm not a scenery fanatic so my 18mm is mostly for group photos and in this case, sharp is not as important as long as they can see their faces. So knowing your point of interest can save you money on (1) future upgrade and (b) overspending on features you don't need.

Nikon don't understand the urgency of owning your first expensive lens! haha. Maybe i shld just check with Nikon SG on when the shipment will arrive?
