Oh, learn something new today.. len creep.. hmm..
So, if I want to shoot something skyward, I have to use my hands to hold down the zoom?
This is a problem if I need to use remote to trigger since I might not be next to my lens
to hold it down..:(

Ahh! the lens is a good lens for most situations but it's not a lens for all situations. I am happy with mine for travel use but I am sure I'll use a prime lens if I need to use a tripod to shoot upwards or downwards..

it is al'rite. this lens got some lens creep. i.e. there are some parts where the resistance is just gd to pull and push and there are some parts in the tele range where the grip is lost, and the lens will either slide up or down by gravity on the front elements. just hold it with your left hand when you are happy with the focal length and angle of view. well, at least these are made in thailand and not higher up.
Mine's made higher up.. Japan.. :P

i mean just above yunnan and just east of tibet.

I just brought this lens 2 hours ago. Very happy with it.

How do you tell that the lens creep?
Mine didn't seem to creep when I point it skywards or downwards. Maybe it is me who couldn't detect the creeping.

it creeps mainly in the middle of the range...near 18mm or 200mm usually no creep...

I passed by Cathay Photo this afternoon and placed my name on the waiting list. Price quoted is $1250. Is the price good? Can pay by credit card somemore.

After that, I went to John 3:16. I don't know his name as I did not ask. A friendly chap. He quoted me $1260. However, he said that the pictures tend to be soft between 18-50 mm. Is it true?

Also, is there any D100 user with this lens? What has NSC do to the D100 body?

Lens with this range usually tend to be soft on the wide. However, Nikon has made this len exceptional. I was impressed the first time I saw the sample pics. :)

$1250 is a pretty decent price for this lens. I have not encountered any post on CS quoting a price lower than that so far. Go for it!!

I got mine today at Lord's, $1250 also. They said I was lucky, walk-in without reserving and I got one (I didn't know this was a popular lens). They said more stocks next week (of course, never can be sure).

$1250 is the best price so far. most others got it from $1280-$1380. anything more than that is a small or a big chop of the carrot. but i think some posted that it is cheaper in malaysia.

I went to penang last week and saw 1 pieces 18-200vr. The shop quoted RM2550, after convert is around $1116 (based on the rate 2.285);p

To intentionally go to Penang will actually cost you more time and money as well. Or adding the cost of shipping and handling, and the risk of damage, is also not really worth the $100+ savings. So this only apply for people who do go Penang for other reasons than buying the lens to save money.

Anyone tried a step-up ring to 77m with the lens hood on? Dunno if will get stuck... ;p

I just bought mine at Lord's after clubgrit sent me their contact. But I got it at $1280.

I asked CP to reserved one for me about 3 weeks back. A few days later they called and I got mine. Maybe I was lucky.
