Hi, i also want to get this lens, but i heard that some one said it made in China ?

Should be made in Japan, unless they shifted production there for the new batches.

It's a free market and everything is possible (both legally/illegally)...black market is always there .... abit off topic already. This is really a must-have lens with Nikon D200.

It isn't the best lens in the world (not the sharpest, does not have the best bokeh, not the fastest) but I think it is probably among the best lenses on the market today with such a wide focal range (18-200mm), with image stabilization (VR2), small size, reasonably good optics, good close and fast focusing, and good pricing. The VR is really useful, people who have the lens will know what I mean.

For many people, this is probably the only lens they need (of course serious amateurs and professionals will have different needs). Seems like very good lens design in my opinion.

i am currently in the middle east and bought a nikon 18-200 lens 2days ago which is Made in Thailand. i guess the production is now shifted to Thailand. nevertheless, it is still Nikon and not an issue to me. very fast AF on my D70s.

there are many genuine buyers who wanted to buy a set below $1400 but do not know where to get it, while there are also many who know where to get them but do not want to pay more than $1250, so they will wait.

Hi any1 encounter this problem. When I tried to focus on a subject with normal vr on, there will be this funny sound which sound like electric current, but when i tried with vr off, it will be ok. Is there something wrong with my lens or is this normal(Vr in action)? Any1 can help? Thanks..

its the truth wud......

Just a note to say I bought my 18-200 during a trip to KL (came back today). Bought from FotoKem in Sungei Wang. 2590RM inclusive of 2% credit card charge, works out to abt 1150 sgd. 1 yr intl warranty. Cheapest & available I asked was a shop at the top floor (IT area), selling for 2480RM excld credit card charges, but the folks there didnt seem too interested to deal. Stock is "Made in Thailand".

I love the 18-200mm lens......no regrets buying it......it is definitely better than a Sigma 18-200mm (picture quality).....

Hi all,

Got a newbie question on the 18 to 200mm .. hope someone
can help.

I was trying to shoot something around 45 degree skyward
when suddenly I feel the zoom ring (?) having some
resistance.

I took a closer look at the lens and realised that the len
will slide backward to around 30mm if it was extended to
around 100mm and pointed skyward. As I was shooting something
skyward, hence there was a resistance as the element was
trying to slide back (due to gravity?).

I am just wondering if is this normal because the front element
is heavy or is this something I need to worry about?

Please advise. Thanks!

This is called lens creep - some copies of this lens have it while other don't so depends on your luck. Usually it would not be a problem unless you shoot upwards without holding on to the lens barrel (e.g. long exposure to capture star trail using tripot).

My copy has this problem too ;)

it is al'rite. this lens got some lens creep. i.e. there are some parts where the resistance is just gd to pull and push and there are some parts in the tele range where the grip is lost, and the lens will either slide up or down by gravity on the front elements. just hold it with your left hand when you are happy with the focal length and angle of view. well, at least these are made in thailand and not higher up.
