wah liew.....i'm soooo jealous now....U in london and me in Singapore office....sigh...Somehow, i rather take exams now in london....

Hmm....." only if it doesn't look like you have done it"...err...does infrared pics looks like "i have done it"? and vignetting effect created using PS? and what abt HDR pics which can some can look like drawings?

Hmm...i'm confused...

think is not really fair to lump infrared in.. it is like lumping bnw together with color.

there is always , i think it is fair to say anyways, that there is always a fine point between not enough, just right and too much. every photographer is always trying to find "just right", in short. and also, whether the PS step taken is needed. if you liberally apply vignetting effect it can look horrible too. :)

as for hdr, i don't like those which look like drawings. but that's a personal preference, and i have ranted about it before.

this is nice!~

i like the polarity between the left and right of the pic.. (*some of* the colours were post processed i believe?)

=)

hi ssping83, thanks for the visit.

actually, other than the over-green grass, i think in all fairness, the sky that day was phenomenal.. and i only did some yellow desaturation here after the output from photomatix, along with contrast and gamma and USM adjustments. it is only my regret that i did not have a better position.

this was taken on the same day as firebrand, if i'm not wrong. the boat is some distance behind this scene, so even more clouds. that was a good day. :)

nice idea...great framing...

thanks :)

actually wanted to emulate hkdigit's shot, but they were doing up the gallery from which he took his shot from. so i went upstairs and made do with something else.

Hey night86mare,

I first stumbled upon your pictures while on the SYPA thread and I must say, your photos are aesthetically, AMAZING.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but I'm curious as to when and how did you start photography?

I think I read somewhere that you started shooting not more than 2 years ago. Your progress is scarily fast! I never thought someone so new to shooting could produce such images. You're truly talented. :p

Took part in the SYPA, and I must thank you for submitting those photos because it really spurred me on to keep improving, and take better photos! I'm quite an amateur, starting shooting about a year ago, still learning and seek to improve in this wonderful, wonderful form of art. :bsmilie:

hey pokky,

thanks for the kind comments. i don't remember exactly when, but i think i started off getting interested in sep 06 or so. was quite bored with life then due to quite a number of sudden changes.. but it was for the better eventually; i'm happier now i think. so yar, has been almost 2 years already.

you can see my first ever post here, there's a reason why i like the chinese gardens so much. :) anyhow, nah, there are much better.. you've hit the nail (in a way) in that i am a tad sore about how my pictures are just that only, aesthetically sound i guess.. trying to improve on that.

anyways, take a look at good photographs, and i think you will have a lot more ideas with regards to compositions, how to look at a scene and handle it or process it. popular pbase gallery list has extremely amazing work, and flickr too (at times) when you're talking about isolated subjects. someone recently introduced franz kafka's quote: we photograph things in order to drive them out of our minds.. i guess when you have much more in your mind after looking at great photographs, you have more things to drive out. :bsmilie:

i'm glad i inspired somebody, and thanks for the warm praise. cheers! :)

Hey night86mare!

Don't mention, they're not simply kind praises, I meant what i said from the bottom of my heart.

And don't be sore, I'm very green when it comes to photography, but I'm pretty sure at that moment when you were shooting those scenes, some emotion must have struck you. And that's the emotion that fueled you to trigger the button, and shoot the picture!

So you can't say that your pictures are ONLY aesthetically amazing. At least when I look at them, it stirs a kind of feeling in me that propels me to be there. (especially the shot of the swan, one of your SYPA entries)

Thank you very much for the references!
