no problem -

i don't use bracketing to shoot hdr, i use manual mode and decide what to shoot, for golden hours usually is quite standard, from +3 to -3, 1 stop in between, i.e. -3, -2, -1, 0, +1, +2, +3.. assuming that the camera metering is accurate. if it is off (usually you will get more consistency with centre weighted metering rather than evaluative).. then redo. this is not to say that you just blindly pump it into whatever hdr program you have later on - if you have the amount of detail you need, then you can dump the shots that are not required (usually at the ends). and not every scene will give you good results with photomatix (the prog i use).. so sometimes if i think it is worth it, do manual blending in photoshop using 2 to 3 different shots.. but very ley chey.

a lot of people will disagree with me, but i do think that hdr should be used to create pictures that are closer to what we see - the eye has an extremely tolerant and wide dynamic range , in particular for shadow detail. if you look briefly at the sun when it is out (not for too long, please) you will realise that there is a lot more shadow detail than typical silhouettes (which is why i tend to steer clear of them). of course there are always differing opinions, and some will tell you that hdr should be used to give you extreme detail, and used liberally for the effect. :dunno:

for daytime shots, the dynamic range is much, much narrower compared to sunset/sunrise timings, at least for wide scenes. imagine the time when the sun has dipped below the horizon but is still giving you colors in the sky. the sky is probably slightly darker than usual, but your foreground is going to be so much darker. :) so when you refer to morning, when the sun has already risen for sometime and not in your frame, and your subject is lying OPPOSITE to the sun, then i don't erally think that hdr is going to do much, since the scene has already very limited dynamic range.
bro i certainly agree with your para 2.

I have been trying to achieve what i see in the skies and the area around but no matter what i do it doesnt show... until i realize theres a HDR tecnique.

Been loving it... going to try again tomorrow morning... this morning started raining... no sun again... LOL... drove all the way to tamp then rain... sianz...

will try the manual exposure tomorrow..

3 enough (+1 0 -1) or should i go for the 5 (+2 +1 0 -1 -2)? how to decide?

thanks in advance bro.

it really depends - usually if you go for +1, 0, -1 i would advise you to save yourself the trouble and shutter count - you can probaby get the details through various methods in photoshop, either shadows/highlights tool.. or burn/dodge, or curves.. :)

to decide, you have to see the scene. how bright is the brightest area? how dark is the darkest area? do you think it warrants requiring hdr, or are you just going through the motions? :)

anyways, i hope to write something on photomatix hdr/hdr in general when i finally get done with my wide angle processing piece.. but there is never enough time, or enough mood.. :(

thanks for the kind comments, rubber duck..

hrm, i'm not sure if this will help but in many situations it is much better to get closer and simplify the composition rather than try to give too much of the place. for example, unless you are able to find a perspective that gives distinct "separation" of the rocks that are typical of punggol beach, getting up close and personal to just an interesting looking one is preferable than just trying to showcase the multitudes of rocks there.. :dunno:

saw something very similar to this on SYPA 2008, still thought you got 2 awards in 1 competition. :bsmilie: nice one;)

:) yep.. there was something identical in sypa 2008.. that one is a lot prettier though, i must say.. :)

Wonder how does this pic looks in full color.
But there must be reason you chose to tint it :bsmilie: Guess it's a landing flight?

thanks guys.

darakusan - grey clouds.. not the dramatic shade of grey.. the boring shade of grey.. :bsmilie:
