Hi zola70,

What is "Focusing should be infinity"? Is it a characteristic of a lens or a setting in the body?

If your lens has a focusing distance indicator you should see a marking like this "∞" on the lens. This is the infinity focusing distance indicate on the lens.

Hey zola70, very nice pictures you got here!!! It seems Nikkor 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 VR is very sharp compared to the kit lens.

I have also tried some night shots here using the 18-105 kit lens, but they are nowhere near the quality of our pics... Need to practice more...

check with u guys...the rear lens cap that comes with our d5000 kit u ppl got is original or those plastic ones. i bought my d5000 at MS color n i receive plastic cap.

So far after browsing this site. You have the best Marina Barrage Night Shots. Stunning.... Inspired me to do a night shot in the future.

If I can recall, the rear lens cap for the kit lens is the white translucent type plastic cap.

Thanks for your comment & viewing, till today I still love my Nikkor 16-85mm lens ever since I sold off my Nikkor 18-200mm lens about 2 yrs ago. I also notice it's sharper then my previous 18-200mm lens. :)

i went down there today...reallly disappointed with the shots
the haze is to much and affecting the back composition

I went down yesterday .... the haze ..... aiya

Yes, it's rather hazy yesterday evening and strong burn smell. Both of you don't get too disappointed there are still time, choose a fine clear evening and go down and shoot again. :)

Hi zola,

You have a very great shot... What in my mind is that which camera can give a good shot w/o using PP, as I don't know how to use PP. I still have not decided what to get with $3k budget, as I need get a dry cabinet, bags, tripod, camera + lenses, speedlight. Either D90 or D5000 for me??? Now after the image u taken I might move forward to D5000. After all like all ppl said " good Photo is not with good camera, the the person behind it".

Hi,

May I know the BW setting of your photo?

I just took some night shooting but the sky shown yellow and orange rather than dark.

Hi Astrorion,

Thanks for viewing & your comment. I'm just like you who also don't like to use PP to edit my photo shots. That why I only use very simple software to do cropping, resizing & printing. For your budget at $3K you can get a D5000 and the rest you can invest on good lenses, speedlight, tripod & so on. To take a good photos all you need is practice and to get the correct settings. :)

Hi,

I use Auto White Balance for all my photos. Why not post your photos here and let us see why is the sky shown yellow and orange rather than dark. :)
