NEX-VG900 ..

Sony users pls enlighten us for the lenses thingy
Yeah me confused too about the lens thingy

But for using auto focus and rocker, I believe all NEX lenses will support.
U mean all the E-mount & A-mount lens can support the auto focus & rocker ?

Thanks

Anyone knows what is the "native" lens for this VG900 ?

As the VG900 doesn't come with any lens (one has to buy their own lens), what is the preferred lens for this VG900 ?

I read that it comes with a LA-EA3 adapter & one must use this adapter to use the A lens to utilize the full frame sensor. So, can I say that the A-mount lens are not the natural type lens for VG900 ?

Is it correct then to say, if we use the E-mount lens, then there is no need to use any adapter ? So, the "native" lens for VG900 is the E-mount lens ?

Thanks

The VG900 has 5.1 surround quad capsule mic. Perfect if you are recording someone 3 feet away. But for most professional situation, using a lavelier or a shotgun on a boom will shorten the distance between the subject and the mic. This gives stronger signal over the ambient noise floor. Hence, the XLR connections.
The power zoom rocker is just an interface with a power zoom lense. The motor is in the lens, not the camera. AFAIK, there is only one such lense from sony bundled with the NX-EA50.

Thanks Bamboo, look like getting the XLR is a must then ... as I have a few XLR mics ... better make full use of them ... :)

Yes, that powered zoom 18-300 is made for NX-EA50H. Does that mean, if we put on other lens we cannot use the auto zoom function on this VG900 ?

Another question, the "native" lens for this VG900 is APS-C sensor and not the full frame sensor, right ? otherwise why would we need an adapter to use the full frame lens ?

What is the difference than from VG20 ? Bcos VG20, we can also use the LA-EA2 adapter to use the A-mount lens (except maybe no full frame effect) ?

Thanks

I think you are right about the adapter. Sony is really in a hurry to ship the VG900. So yes, the kit lens is motorised but will only utilise the APS-C portion of the full-frame sensor. To get full-frame effect, you have to buy the new crop of E-mount full frame lens coming soon, or use alpha lenses with the adapter. So the ultimate lens choices are: Motorised, E-mount, Full-frame lenses. You can certainly expect these in the market in the months to come.

Here is a unedited real world video taken at photokina. (pls switch to 1080 before watching)

Looks good to me .... Colors and sharpness are pretty nice ... I do see some moire like the GH3. Will consider between this and the GH3 for my B Cam, greatly dependent on Sony's fully motorised FF lenses availability.

*Just a note: Its using the zeiss 24-70 and no support for zoom rocker. Have auto focus but the guy was trying manual i think.

But we won't know the pricing of the new crop of E-mount full frame lens yet ... afraid it will be too expensive ...

But at least VG 900 will be tech-proof for a few years ?

It's got almost everything a filmmaker can dream of: Power zoom, full-frame, auto-focus, XLR expandability. Now, if only they could stretch the dynamic range like the BMD Cinecam.....

Yes, you are right. I think I can't wait for this VG900 to reach Singapore.

But this VG900 doesn't come with any lens.

Hope when it arrives here, Sony will have a special package for power zoom lens & the XLR adapter kit !

Btw, what is a good dynamic range to have which this VG900 doesn't have ?

Thanks

Cheers

1. Its only full frame on Sony lenses using LA-EA3? EF (canon) mount lenses will only work in crop mode? A little confusing for this

Full-frame mode should work with any adapted full-frame lens.

To get full-frame effect, you have to buy the new crop of E-mount full frame lens coming soon, or use alpha lenses with the adapter.

Sony didn't announce any full-frame E-mount lenses. Well, there is no need for that. You can already adapt any full-frame lens no mater what mount.

Can I know if mount the Powered zoom lens (the one that comes with Nex EA-50H) on the VG900, will I be able to do auto-zoom ?

And Would I be cable to zoom using remote control ?

Thanks

Cannot wait for these video cameras to come out !

Looks like suddenly there is no news at all !

Hi guys,

Just an update. Many ppl have been saying that the A99 & VG900 is basically produces the same image for video. (Just different form factor with a FF chip)

If its so, it will be disappointing for us 5D3, GH2 users who are looking for better quality images. (Because for what I see, its lacking detail, sharpness & DR)
Well, the 24mbit/s is really gona degrade the quality.

Here are some new samples footages from A99 (To me, looks like it can be shot from even a 600D)

Leading me to think, whether I should save up more for the FS700 which is truely an upgrade from 5D2/3 & GH2/3.

Where did you get the idea the VG900 should be any better? It's a consumer camcorder and it's from Sony. A NXCAM version would be much more expensive, I guess at least 3 or 4 times as much.

Nope, wasn't expecting anything but sadly it falls short of even basic requirements called "Moire" and "anti-aliasing". Which should not appear on video cameras that cost you SGD$4000+ regardless its a camcorder or not.
