The Sigma 8-16 works well with the NEX and EA2 adapter. It easily outperforms the M43 UWAs. The pro at Luminous Landscape was using it. I have it as well. Here is the 5N & 8-16
The corners are rather soft.... *points to the bottom left corner* The Panasonic MFT 7-14 is sharp from corner to corner at F4. Sure there's distortion but corrected well enough software.
And I buy a system to use the native lenses. Not to use 3rd party.

Xpro1 despite the slower AF, it has the fast/small native lenses.
To me the AF isn't that slow either, certainly adequate for most purposes.
NEX7 is a pretty nice 'sensor platform' for other lenses, but most of its native lens offerings are not attractive at all.
But its problems with M-mount WA lenses seems to make the 5n a better proposition for other mount lenses too.

For me, I'm playing wait and see. If the price drops below 2K SGD, I will look at it. It is to me overpriced for what it offers, and I would rather be patient.
Same feeling regarding the price.
Its a bit too much compared to most of the higer end APS-C models from other brands.
I don't I'll every get to buy one though even though it appeals to me quite a bit, it would mean 3 systems to support :sweat:
X100 price is constantly dropping, especially BNS is like $950, hopefully xpro1 will drop very fast too. Slow AF not an issue, price is.

Yes. At 8mm, which is 12mm equivalent, there's distortion that makes it look blur. But it clears up at about 10mm. If you don't use other brand's lenses, it would be a shame to miss the Oly 45mm 1.8 on a Panasonic body. It's such a nice lens.

Yeah, I think the AF issue is over blown. Definitely usable for most stuff.
Price is really too much for now.
K-01 can wait abit, since I am not in urgent need to replace K5.
Wait till Photokina to see whats on the table before I decide.
I tried out XPro-1 earlier at the IT Show. I find the AF a bit slow, shutter lag is a bit annoying and built wise I feel too much plastic maybe because the weight is not proportional to the size or it's lighter for its size, you would probably expect more metal and a little bit heavier. But I believe!the strength of Xpro1 is on its ISO handling and image quality. Maybe for its price I'm quite expecting more than it can give. I then went to Sony booth to try Nex7 but I'm more disappointed because its all sold out. Anyway this is not a review just my opinion.

Hmm, seems sharper at 10mm as you say. I suppose I could live with something like this. Technically 14-24mm (35mm equivalent) is more than enough for me.

The closest camera for comparison is the Ricoh GXR. With EVF, it was about 1.4k with the 28mm/2.5. The X100 started at 1.7k!!! And Ricoh's Jpeg processing and AF is either equal or better than the x100.

hmmm i wonder why people feel it's plasticky? the top and bottom are aluminum plates, the body is made of die-cast magnesium alloy wrapped in synthetic leather, while the shutter speed and exposure compensation dials are milled metal. it actually feels quite solid. even the plastic buttons are quite tight

i was initially attracted to the nex 7 but the lens lineup is really unattractive for me... i used to own a nex 5 and i remember i got tired of waiting for nice, fast, native lenses... whereas the x-pro launched with a nice mix of fast, compact lenses at really useful (for me) focal lengths and the upcoming ones are nicely thought out as well (23/24, 70-200 equivalents, etc)... also the design of the nex bodies+lenses look a bit unbalanced... you get nice, compact bodies matched to proportionally bigger (and awkward looking) lenses, a marriage i find a bit awkward. i find that the design of the x-pro1 (with the 35mm and 60mm) is more balanced and the manual controls more intuitive.
i guess the areas that the nex 7 beats the x-pro 1 is af speed, lower price, and higher mp. not sure about the iq, im waiting for the pros to come up with their usual comparisons

The plasticky feeling probably got to do with the body finish. If they can give it an overall metalic finish or a leather touch, may change the opinions of many. Compared to X100, Xpro-1 is lighter. People have different sense of feel/touch, no point trying to argue whether it is or is not plasticky.
The NEX-7 is still very much targeted at prosumer level and for the Alpha users to use as a spare body. On a stand alone basis, the NEX Lenses arent that fantastic. Nevertheless, there is one truth that I always believe in ---- give me a Nex7 and an XPro-1 , the pictures I take will most probably be the same ... having one or the other doesnt make my pictures better.
I listed mine for sale at that price a couple of weeks ago .. =)
The NEX 7 is now larger, so it looks less unbalanced than the 5 with the lenses and don't forget the LA adapters, which allow you to use native A-mount lenses, such as Carl Zeiss optics on the NEX. The X-Pro 1 has smaller lenses, but I don't think it will ever look balanced like the M43 system. In fact, as the M43 bodies grow, with the OMD and its grips added, the lenses look too small.
For me, NEX is the most flexible system out there. There is now a decent spread of top quality E-mount glass like the 24mm Zeiss, the 50mm 1.8 OSS and the 55-210 zoom. The EA2 system can add PDAF autofocus with native A-mount lenses from UWA to ultra zoom and finally, the peaking focus makes it a snap with other Pentax, Leica, Zeiss manual focus glass. The possibilities are endless and my dry cabinet is now filled with so many brands. The 7 even adds wireless flash possibilities. It's quite fun if you like to experiment like me since different lenses gives you different looks from old classic glass to technically perfect lenses. I can't imagine sticking to a single brand again.
How do u get 10 fps burst on the NEX7? I was at the show and I could not get more than 2 shots out in P mode before the camera locks up writing the images to the class 10 card I had in it. They had to change it to iAuto mode or something before it would shoot in burst mode.

It's the card issue I guess . I used the 55m/s hx pro memory stick on the 7, it only starts to stagger after holding the button continuously for 2 seconds. This was on raw plus jpeg as well . Considering the the larger raw file size from the aspc sensor , you do need a faster card when doing bursts .
