[News] Panasonic Lumix DMC-GM1

I guess there won't be a body only in SG, correct?

Really a compact size mirrorless with good sensor useful features.
Anyone gotten it?

Seems none of the shops have it in stock yet, Singapore launch expected to be on Friday...I am heading overseas on Monday so am going to try to pick one up this weekend.

that's kinda quite a loop haha. Let's just be patient la. I see the way pple buy the A7/A7R , really scary.

That's the list price nobody pays. Discounts are better in UK than here, much better.

Ha but vis to vis, not much people pays the list price here as well right?

What's more locally

- is about $300 (23%) cheaper in terms of list price
- comes with an additional promotion of RWS Invites membership
- comes with 8GB card and a leather jacket which UK isn't giving?

Actually also that Pana doesn't honor international warranty.

Hmm, I remember with the EM5 , UK had given the choice of a free HLD-6 or the 45/1.8.

It's standard to differentiate across markets.

More important is that we r clear about whether r we getting value for money :)

Hoping I don't start seeing RWS memberships for sale in B n S ;)

Anyone any idea how much will the grip be sold ?

Goof luck with getting the GM1 $300 cheaper than RRP here in SG before Xmas. On the other hand a tiny 23% discount isn't even considered a discount in the UK. ;) What I was saying is even though the list prices seem to be higher in UK, items get discounted much more and faster than here or in the USA.

You misunderstand my words la, I mean now vis to vis $999 is already about $300 cheaper than UK of about $1299. Assuming you are able to find a 10% discount locally, that's about $899.

$899/$1299 =31% discount.

Assuming you get a 30% discount in UK (this is newly launched, may not be likely), add freight cost to transport in from UK, still worth it?

I guess the point here is that rather than thinking the grass is greener elsewhere, shouldn't we keep our mindset open?

lol, exactly. Why would you buy it there if you would need to ship it over, doesn't make any sense in the first place. I don't think anybody here suggested that. Keep your mindset open, some people don't live in only one country. If you travel a lot, you got more options.

I am really looking forward to this camera. Heading to Japan on Monday night and then Korea on Tuesday... so am considering buying there. From what I understand, no international warranty converage for Panasonic, is that right?

Not just that, i believe for panny cams in JP, they do not offer english menus? Correct me if i am wrong pls.

Oh well, not again. :) The Japanese model comes only with Japanese menus, you won't be able to switch it to English ever. It can't be flashed to a non-Japanese firmware even once Panasonic releases updates. Your only option in Japan would be to buy an overseas model but those models usually retail at RRP and so they are more expensive than here in SG. Of course if you can read Japanese I highly recommend buying the Japanese model.

All this is only the case with Panasonic and Sony, all other camera brands come with English menus even in Japan.
