Hi Guys

Thanks for all your advise which give me the decision to go down for a 1 to 1 exchange. Glad that I did it thanks to you guys.

Reached there and went to the cashier area striaght and told the duty manager. Without any question. he help me to locate one of the Nikon staff assign to this fair and did a check on my camera. The technical service guy was great. did a battery check (using his own battery). He was quick to acknowledge the problem and without any question, he told the store guy to replace a new one for me. I told him I hv place a screen protector on the faulty camera, he told me no problem and will issue another protector for me. Hand me a new set and apologies to me on the trouble I hv to go through. I was abit concern over a simliar issue would happen to the new set. He accompany me to a area and did a check on the new set. all in order. Was very please with the overall experience.

I was very happy with the good service of challenger and the service guy (Denise) I think. Thanks once again if he happen to be a menber of this forum. Keep it up.

Thanks for the good service to Nikon and challenger as well.

to all guys that thought that comex allows 1 to 1 exchange.. you are all wrong.
they will say that they do not allow exchange there and can only be send to nikon service centre for repair.

This is from my experience...

great to hear! good luck and congrats.

Splash11: Welcome to Nikon! Hope to see your images with Nikon colour soon! :)

Just to share my experience... I bought a D300 last year at one of the fairs and only to find out that there was a dead pixel when I tested the cam at home. I went back to the Nikon counter the next day for a 1-to-1 exchange and they gladly entertained me, whereby we tested another 3 cameras, all with dead pixel(s), before settling down with a perfect one

2 points here:

1) All products will have defects. For me, dead pixel is a common but annoying problem for DSLR which I'm most concern with. I believe all buyers should always check their new cams carefully before committing the purchase.

2) I don't think 1-to-1 exchange is unreasonable nor impossible, as long as you ASK. :)

yeah kudos for nikon~!!!!

yeah kudos for nikon~!!!!

nothing kudos for nikon.. its their fault for producing substandard products... and the products are not exactly cheap.. it does not give me confidence to purchase nikon products after my 1st coolpix compact with them... :bsmilie:

Go elsewhere to troll

Happy for TS. Got a one to one exchange :)

Think TS' D5k had the same fault as mine when I first got it. Less than a month and out it went to Anson road to see doctor. Was expecting a one to one exchange then but only came back with a new circuit board replaced, with extended 3 months warranty for it.

My experience was worse with other brands.. I think all brands have their fair share of QC problems.. Just your luck I guess.. ;p

Wasn't there a recall on the D5000 on some issues with the power control circuit board? I read that somewhere before. Also, I seem to remember D90 had some problems with the power control stuff a while back.

Yup. I've had tons of stuff fail on me right after purchase. It is just a fact of life nowadays with modern electronics irregardless of brand. What matters is, 1) attitude of manufacturers and 2) attitude of the sellers, in rectifying these issues.

Usually 1 to 1 exchange with seller is ok especially if you just bought the stuff from them just a day ago. Usually when seller chooses not to do so is either there is no more stock of the item, or it is something in their inventory that they are trying very hard to clear.

Nikon explains recall of serviced D5000s
Wednesday, 19 August 2009 16:40 GMT

Nikon has released a statement explaining why some D5000 owners have been asked to return their cameras for a second time. The company says it developed an enhanced preventative maintenance procedure after it had started servicing cameras so 'a small number' of customers will need to send their cameras back again. It has also updated its list of affected serial numbers under the original service notice.

Press statement:

Nikon would like to confirm that it has contacted a small number of D5000 customers within Europe that have previously sent their cameras in for repair following the recent Service Notice, asking them to re-send their cameras in to their local service centre for further repair work. Subsequent to the publishing of the Service Notice and the adoption of the preventative maintenance, an additional and enhanced procedure was developed. A small number of D5000 cameras in Europe were not initially treated with this enhanced procedure so we are asking customers to return them to us for a short time. The process of repairing affected D5000s is being handled in a fast and efficient manner and we are committed to maintaining this level of service so that the issue is fully resolved within the near future.

In addition, Nikon recommends that all D5000 customers check the updated list of “Affected Product Serial Numbers”, further to the following Service Notice as additional product serial numbers have been added.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience that Nikon customers may experience as a result of this issue. Nikon remains committed to providing only the highest quality photographic products and hopes that you will continue to choose Nikon for your imaging needs.
