Based on Lar's history... it seems all his replies are senseless so just ignore him. But I think you should post this under general category.

I think Lars is nothing wrong lor .... As Lars said, It is a open event and anyone can take photos. Why the photographer should paid to take her pic ?

Please get it right .... Nothing is free ..... yet you so support her, is it because she is a pretty lady ?

Aiyo....u add oil to the fire...:flame:
Pretty do hv privilege ... :bsmilie:

Actually, everyone has a point here la.
Whether want to give or sell is up to the individual.
But I think if she just want to safe keep for her own and for non-commercial
use, I think we should be happy to give it for free.
The important thing is friendship here. $$ is important, but there are things that $$ can't buy.

Too bad I don't have much good shots from last night to give. :embrass:

quite honestly, even if her looks (good or otherwise) has got anything to do with who sides who, is that wrong?

i say, in this world, know ur strengths and flaunt it. if ur looks (or simply just being FEMALE) is ur strength then use it! let's face it, u won't be the first, or the last.

same for us guys wat, those that have a car, house, goes expensive places to eat etc etc will perk the interest of more girls, becos u have more money. use it to ur advantage, why not? again, u won't be the first, or last guy using this "method".

of course, a few of u are calling me shallow. shallow pple are those that do not embrace how this world works, staying in your own "moral" shell.

btw.. post not targetted at anyone in particular.

I agree that there are a lot of people out there who like to exploit photographers, especially freelance photographers (like some fella who wanted to pay me a whopping $50 to shoot a 4-hr ROM, including D&P!).

But seriously, give this girl a break. She's only a 15 year-old school girl and she must be truly excited about this. I guess she's yet to establish contacts so where else could she go? Put yourself in her shoes and cut her some slack, please. I really doubt she's out to exploit anybody here.

We may all have our opinions, but please try to put it across in a civil manner. What's her being rich got to do with anything? That's just rude, plain and simple. (And smacks of jealousy and envy, too.)

Alamak, just give the young girl the pix and don't scare them lar, just downsized to say 1200 pixel length and jpg quality 8 stuff. I don't think anybody has got high quality enough pix that can sell unofficially, from any of the known positions. If you were shooting with a 400/2.8, 500 or 600/4 on a tall tripod with elevation, good position and pretty close eye contact or an interesting shot, then alright go ahead and sell (which some have done before).

And yes, it won't be much of a $$$. But treat it as a way to get more contacts if your people-skills are good, eg One approached me to shoot her wedding. Blah blah blah.....it's pretty simple really.

I'm all for protecting the rights for photographers when their photos are used without their permission or for commercial purposes, but come on, this is just someone who was in the competition who wants some shots of herself.
You are right, and you put it in a better way than me man... :D Sometimes, we photographers think too highly of ourselves. Prove that your pix can sell first (ie good portfolio), then we can talk about big $$$.

Wait.. I think the friend of the winner should prove that he/she is her friend. ANyone can jolly say this is my friend today and others come in the next day saying the same thing "Pls email me the pic". Who knows behind the computer may be a 40yrs old pervert? :bsmilie: Just a thought, no offense..

Yah hor. It's quite possible. So whoever wants to send the pics, gotta verify who the receipient really is. Sekali take your pics and go make money with it...

and my I add, that those who have good looks, flaunt it and use it, becos it won't last forever, or rather it won't last very long. Strike while the iron is HoT. :bsmilie:

Then, why didn't the winner herself come in here to ask for the pic. If I had some good pics and she ask me in a nice way, I would send her the pic and just a thank you in return will do. Smallaperture will give small file size too. :)

3 cheers for Jason...
I agreed with him, usually I will just give a copy to the participant of any contest upon proving their identities.

Whatever I spend on my equipments, i take it as my fee for my hobby.
Why ask $$$ from a 15 years old when you are much older than her and working... can't understand. :bsmilie:

My 2 cents worth...

Your attitude sucks. :thumbsd:

It's not as if the person asking for pictures is going to use them for commercial purposes. Just that his friend won the competition and would probably like some pictures for remembrance sake. My friend was in the same competition and I was thinking of asking any of the photographers who might post her pic on CS to send me a web sized copy just as a sort of souvenier for her.

I'm all for protecting the rights for photographers when their photos are used without their permission or for commercial purposes, but come on, this is just someone who was in the competition who wants some shots of herself.

winner => very rich => must buy? Come on la, for goodness sakes. Get your head out of your wallet for a second.

Sometimes as a community we should be more understanding and not cast such statements. Blah blah BUY blah blah don't ask for free blah blah cover cost of equipment. I'm sure lots of people who were approached in such a situation would be more than happy to give a copy of the picture, and not demand the picture be bought.

ermm to those who thinks i m a guy..i m not...
and sophie is in my sch..same level...
used to be in same class
anw some photographers here can vouch for me that i m from st margs too

Juzt sum food for thot -

1. A model does an event and ask if photographers will be kind enough to give her pictures.

2. A newbie photographer is doing up his portfolio and asks if models are kind enough to model for him free.

Photographers have done (1) so many times when asked out of kindness, but has anyone stopped to ask why when situation is reversed, very little, if any, models, are willing to volunteer to do (2)?

I can vouch for her.

Come to think of it ...if not for us photographers, Sophie might not have walked away a winner ..... the judges were literally blinded by our flashes.

Haha :bsmilie: That's one of the best joke I heard in this forum. But thks for easing the tension in this thread.

the judges were blinded by the catchlights in sophie's eyes when our flashes went off behind their backs.

Jeez!!

Will you people get a grip! (and by "you people," I'm refering to LARS & co.)

The girl's just ASKING for pictures...

You can give 'em... or  here's an idea, you could NOT give 'em!

How the heck did this turn into a philosophical debate about whether photogs shld charge
for the photos they take at open events?! If you think your photos are that good, you
simply need to tell her you want to get paid for them and she can then decide whether to
cough up the dough or not.

IT'S SO SIMPLE!!!

There's absolutely no need to be derisive toward the girl (she's not demanding you
give her your photos, nor is she proclaiming that photogs should give their photos for free).
