Newbies Outing (Part 13) - 21 July Marina Bayfront Area Photos

These images taken from the top that I have seen so far has a better balance than most. However, do watch the rule of thirds.

I was wondering how to really get the rule of thirds to be on the landscpae image?

More sky or less sky instead of horizon dead centre. :)

Please post!!! I also want to see how my pic can be enhanced :)

Not a very fantastic one but is the least i could do. :)

ZCA's place is convenient and cozy. It's a cafe some more so i can buy you the coffee and cheesecake there at one go!!!
don't "ZCA's place" leh...
wait people think I'm profiteering... :) hehehehehe

Just for the record, I have no personal financial involvement in this place! I'm neither a shareholder, nor investor, nor employee :)

DD123, if want big room with projector, can consider my office... but it's all the way out east leh...
maybe sunrise outing at Changi Beach, followed by breakfast at Changi Village, followed by PP lesson? ;p

Are you sure it is ok? Don't wait you get into trouble for letting outsiders into the office.

lemme get back to you on that one.

Tt's all guys! Most of the pictures are slanted due to my lousy freebie tripod or my lousy hands. Haha. The pics are also straight out of camera as I do not know how to PP. So I support the idea of having a PP outing as well!!

Thanks bro Ding for organising this outing and telling me the reasons why I should change my tripod

Hi Starsfruit, I think your pic would look good in B&W too:

:bsmilie:Yup, i like to burn my skies to a crisp but i held back a bit for your shot. You managed to capture nice lines and patterns for this shot. Just had to emphasize them more. Good eye.

Me likey this one the most haha. Like some has suggested, it has a great potential.
I like #5 too. I think you have a good eye.
PS. So, which tripod are you getting? j/k haha.

I am on tight budget so I most probably will buy a cheaper aluminium one.. something like the one Longshu and Ding have.. hee..

Finally, some close up...

5) Interesting way of using the lower deck as your foreground. However, you might want to explore further to further better the composition.

7) This is a reasonably well exposed shot. With the bright sun in the photo, the buildings still remain fairly well lit. For me, I probably will shoot this in portrait so that I can include more of the nearest building. Which you can get a nice layering effect. Building nearest will be clearest. You can still pp to increase clarity and contrast.

Generally, you will probably want to observe the rule of thirds for your 6,7 and 8.

okie! I will keep in mind your suggestions :)

Hi Smiles88,

your photos are generally sharp and quite well exposed. A good first newbies attempt I would say :)
For those shots taken with black sky, i prefer even more exposure. Probably another 1 stop.
The tilt is quite minimal. Quite a good job. You may consider those hotshoe-mounted spirit levels to help you gauge whether camera is horizontal or not.

The composition is a bit unbalanced. Left-heavy,
if you know what I mean.
Quite difficult to explain in a single post. Try to study those photos by the seniors, especially those shooting near you, to analyze their composition :)

To all those who turned up, I hope you are proud of the pictures you've all taken at the outing. Not saying that it should be 100% keepers, but at least a minimum of 5 is good enough. As your skill level goes up, definitely the percentage goes up.

Keep up the good work and hope to see you post more pictures of other subjects.

Cheers!

Yeah i do get what you mean with the composition. I famed the photos as such as I wasn't sure if I wanted the construction site on the left to be in. Looking at the pictures of the other people, I guess I should have done that. Never mind, I can try again next time. Haha. Thanks for your comments!

Lovely shot -nAstar-!
The coulors are excellent very well captured a good presentation...
Thanks, Jacob

Nice! #1! ;)
Am I the only one that sees your #4 whole cityscape tilted to the left? Other than that, it's a pretty good capture.
Now that you mention it, then I started to pay attention.
I think you're right, it's tilted.
Thanks for the comments

Nice shots
Thanks, Adrian

Nastar, ur pics looks teriffic! Looks like is worth your 20 bucks ~ SO far most of the pics looks great from the top ~:D
Thanks, Ivy.
Well, the $20 is worth for taking picture, but not for exploring the sky park since half of it still under construction
