Newbies Outing (part 10) - June 6 Sunday, Marina Barrage

i would love to share with whatever limited knowledge and experiences i have, but i also feel that i'm stuck between a newbie and senior, not at the level of zerocool or numnumball yet.

but i think i could help a total newbie with getting to familiarise with basic DSLR handling. i would be honored to be a senior if zerocool permits.

i have to give this gathering a miss cause of my brother's house warming party.

If you understand the basic principles of photography, the relationship between the 3 components (Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO), rules of thirds, basic DSLR handling ... you should be fine. Sure you have no problem with the above.

Unfortunately Alan can't make it due to prior commitments.

I understand the reservations people have about being labelled "senior"... hehehehe.
The point is that none of us are practising professional photographers. We are all amateurs basically.
As wildcat put it so pointedly in a previous thread (outing #9), a primary 3 student can teach a primary 2 student... that's the concept we wanna foster.
If you understand the "Golden Triangle" (the relationship between ISO speed, aperture and shutter speed) to getting the right exposure, you can guide a total newbie along already...

I think the sadder thing is that since you have participated in these outing before, you did not even bother to update the list when you decide to drop out. Then organiser have to keep reading all the post to update it ...

i think i can handle those no issue. i'll be glad to join in as much as possible but not this one.

I still have more slots for seniors and guides, and newbies. Those who think they want to contribute back to the community by helping to guide and answer newbies queries, please step forward. Trust me, we don't want a guru, but sufficient enough to answer basic and important questions of photography particularly, landscape (which I feel should be a basic requirement for all photographers).

For the independent shooters, you are not getting off that easily! I am expecting you to mingle with the newbies, help them out, but the newbies will look to the seniors and guides should you, the independent shooters, are unable to answer the newbies' questions.

More details will follow in the next couple of days.

DATE/TIME: 6 JUNE 2010 (Sunday), 1630hrs onwards

LOCATION: Ground level entrance of the Barrage.

THINGS TO BRING:
1) Camera + lens(es) if it's a DSLR. If not, any camera with manual control over shutter speed, aperture, etc.
2) Tripod. This is essential especially when the sky gets darker. If you don't want to bring, please don't waste a slot by putting your name down.

Things you may expect to shoot:
1) Interesting structures in Singapore
2) View of the waterfront from the Marina Barrage

The format will be some "slightly more experienced" photographers providing guidance to relative newcomers into photography.

ZercoolAstra's definiton of 'newbie':
- started photography within the past couple of years.
- still feeling confused about setting up the camera for certain shots (eg. what is correct exposure; how to meter; what shooting mode to use, etc).

After shooting for about 3 hours +, we will break for dinner, where we will offer a chance for critique of selected shots. This will give people a chance for some immediate feedback into possible 'faults'.
