I understand where you'er coming from, but what abt Ring Flashs, any comments?
Are they easier to use since they don't cast as much shadow?

Well, I don't have experience with ring flashes.
Really cannot comment.
I'm sure some of the experienced Ring-flash users will be able to give you their feedback.

But truly, why don't you go ahead and get yourself a Speedlite 580EXII first?

Believe it...:bsmilie:...

Expensive?...Basket, you mean got cheaper ones har? I newbie, so I really not sure cheap or expensive.

i'm a newbie and so cheap that I haven't bought anything yet except for a S$400 35mm f1.8.

I said your gear is expensive because just taking the price of your 85 f1.2 which I believe is around S$4k -- that is already twice the price of my whole gear! :o

peace. :)

I don't wanna buy so many Flash mah...so if I can find one that suits me for all purpose, then I only buy ONE...:bsmilie:

How much is the average price for this har?

OK...so I guess that it is abt $600 plus...weekend I go look see...;)

SiFu...I got a complicated question I wanna ask...what are the things to look for when I want a group photo to look more 3D?...I notice some times the angle I take for my kids, the pic turn out a bit flat, like 2D...You know what I mean?

My 85mm is not so expensive, if you look ard, you can find 2nd hand or Grey Set...:)

Don;t have to everything buy brand new,,,;)

Chow Yun Fatt, I think you probably mean that the picture doesn't show sufficient depth.
Perhaps you can show some photos of your children to see?

(Erm.. I am no experienced photographer. There are many many experienced seniors here.
They are the real sifu. Really. Really.)

A 580EXII with a GaryFong LightSphere Collapsable is a good flash set up. I am aiming to get this setup before the CNY! haha.

You can read up more on here:

85 f1.8 is not that expensive. I'm planning on buying one.

85 f1.2, however, would probably cost me my marriage! ;p

Lucky for me, my wife likes this hobby as well...so we enjoy doing this together...;)

At the end of the day, its all about the User...the equipment can only help you so much...
Spend within your means & what ever picture you take, as long as you are happy with it, I think its ok...I'm speaking from a BEGINNERS point of view...

Most important is how the picture relates to each individual...:)

wow... you've got equips i want. haha...

for flash 580EXII is good, but if you dun require such strong lighting, the 430EXII in my opinion can do the job well too.

My equipment is pretty standard, nothing special, can buy anywhere...:)

I just got my 580 today...but havn't got the chance to get it out of the box yet...:bsmilie:

I'm a bit tired of always going around Bargain Hunting for stuff, do you have a dependable supplier you frequent to recommend me? You know lar, newbie dunno all the haunts.

Gam Xia :)

Oei.. Chow Yun Fatt, don't like that call leh... please please.. really.
I would be more than happy to help in whatever limited knowledge I have.
Let me PM you...

I have a question...I'm looking for a multi-purpose lens to cover my weekend walks with my kids...Currently, I'm using the kit-lens 15 - 85mm on my 7D...

I'm torn between the EF 24-70mm f2.8 L & EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 IS

Which is a better choice for my usage, considering the fact that my kids run on Sugar High most of the time.

Like I mentioned, speed is the key factor as I take mostly candied shots out doors with them & sometimes portriat shots of them.

:)

Thanks for all your leads...

ok BRO, I have another question, I only wanna buy a tripod once, so if I need one that suits my requirements which tripod & head would you recommend me?

1. I need one light weight to carry around & abroad, so must be airport friendly.

2. It must be able to take the weight of my 7D & 70-200mm f2.8.

3. Small enough to use in tight spaces, like indoor portrait shots.

4. Is there a head that enables me to pan the Camera horizontally?

Thanks again for your valued advise...

If this is outdoors in bright daylight, you don't really need a fast f2.8 lens (that doesn't mean you wouldn't want them though :) )

Btw, what is wrong with your 15-85? Is it not focusing fast enough for you?

I made a comparison under the same environment between my 15-85 & 85 f1.2...& I find the images of the 85 much more favorable...but with the 85mm I cannot zoom in, so I look like a drunken father doing a very bad dance move...:bsmilie:...I was hoping the f2.8 would help a little & with zoom, I don't need to dance ard so much...:bsmilie:
