How to compare a flash with a strobe?

Flash is more intelligent...
Strobe is more powerful...

If you just want firepower, strobe is more value for money of course...

a flash is only as intelligent as the photog using it.:bsmilie:

actually shouldnt dump.
those who have the sb800 i think should keep it, use it as a CLS for outdoors.

lol always thought that sb-800 as a CLS slave can be an overkill.

No... SB80DX makes a better remote flash in CLS than SB800 because it has the same GN of 38 at 35mm zoom head and cheaper than SB 800

Think I will stick to SB-800.

Does the SB-80DX do CLS?

i guess their definition of 'do' means it can set to slave and fire if it detects a flash.

i use that with my super old sb-26.and it works too.

but for CLS to control it wirelessly, i dont think it is compatible with the SU wireless controller.

correct me if i am wrong.

the 'problem' with cls for portraits outdoors it that you either buy 3 light stands, or you have helpers to help you hold the flash.

and sometimes, it doesnt fire because it works on infrared trigger iirc.

I just got my 2nd SB800! now thinking whether to get another SB800 or should I stay cheap and get the SB600. Using it as kicker light.

BTW .... how to you guys bring your light stands out? I am thinking to get a light stand bag that can hold at least two light stands and a shoot through umbrella. =) But the ones I came across seems pretty long. =( The compress stands are 60cm in length. Any suggestions what I can look for?
