new sigma 24-70mm

Has there been any reviews of this lens online yet? I have the non HSM model and would like to know whether i should upgrade to the HSM model. My 24-70 is almost permanently mounted on my 400D. I really do like my lens. The canon 24-70 is way out of my league and the new and lighter sigma version would be well appreciated.

i have seen another video review that shows nikon to have the best 24-70, followed by sigma, and then canon.

on that chinese site i saw the review on the Sigma to the Nikon, i find the Sigma in some area more superior than the Nikon like the edge detail, Sigma has more detail than the Nikon. Colour are very similar, I'll say Sigma has slightly more saturation than Nikon & other areas are quite hard to pick......

yupp i was thinking of getting the old one, though, since i am quite an average photographer (newbie, only about 1.5 years) and according to john3:16, the HSM has really not much use. What do you guys think, those who've used the old and new lens before?

HSM for the faster, quieter focusing. The newer version is also a completely different optical design which i feel offers better performance/quality over the older design. Not sure why John 3:16 keeps saying its not worth it paying for the HSM. The lens design was changed too, not just the addition of HSM

I went to shoot with the 24 - 70 mm Ex HSM today, the AF seems ok, and the picture quality is really, is sharp. Well, compared to the old macro version (given that the noise doesn't really bother me), shopowners keeps saying the HSM version is not worth getting and there isnt really a comprehensive english review on the new lens yet, so i'm holding out, despite requiring a 2.8 lens pretty badly

if these reviews are anything to go by, I just might be tempted enough to get it to replace my tamron 17-50 since I dun find myself shooting below 20mm these days...

hi guys,

newbie here too.

am contemplating of buying a new lens and tempted to buy this one too. however, what's holding me back is the known issues on sigma lenses which are front/back focussing.

will this lens work nicely with D90? i don't mind losing the wide angle bec i shoot normally indoors so i can live with it.

no front/rear focus issues noted on my copy..but u have to test with your own d90 at the shop to be sure.

only issue is if you intend to use with a SB600-900, may have to disable the focus assist light, otherwise the focusing may be affected.

As this lens is not for sports/action, focusing speed ain't important at all. Focus accuracy is more important IMO.

Well, new improved and better version for the digital age - and cost more too.

Just guessing, John3:16 might have a few copies of the old lens to push out, so trying hard to convince folks to buy it. Maybe at an attractive price.:think:

Someone should just insist on ordering and getting the lens, see if he can really deliver at $1200.
