New release? M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 75-300mm F4.8-6.7 II

Impressive.
Definitely this will be the next lens on my list.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

anyone feels that the newer version Mk2 is softer/not as sharp as mark1?

Don't have the Mark 1 before, but I think Mark II retains the same components inside, changed the outside. And Olympus claimed added new coating to keep scratches off and eliminate ghosting and lens flare.
So IQ should be technically the same.

I hv the MK 2 and I already thinks its much sharper than the Panasonic 100-300mm which I previously own. On its own MK 2 is quite sharp, if MK 1 is even sharper then OMG!!!

Yup. Mark 1 appears to be sharper. Have not done any formal testing yet though.

ya :( especially around the 200-300mm focal length .. its quite noticeable.. dont have the mark 1 though ><

really? any links with examples?

I find the lens perfectly sharp at 300mm, as long as you have sufficient shutter speed to counter lens shake. usually if it is not sharp, it is my own fault and user error

oh i see ... here is a sample at 300mm but the shutter is just 1/50 (the uncle is static though) ya maybe its the shutter speed ..normally how much shutter speed needed to counter the lens shake when shutter press ?

Well this is a 300mm lens. I usually keep shutter speeds about 1/200-1/300 at least for optimal sharpness. Strictly a good weather Lens for me. I will keep this lens when the sky turns dark.

I suppose can just bump the ISO. I hate fair weather lenses as generally I don't want to shoot in bright light.

Am I right in assuming we don't have any other options if using a EM5 and desiring autofocus?

Might still pick up this lens when I'm in Japan.

Cheers!

I use my 75mm F1.8 for lower light haha....

you must know that this is a 300mm lens (600mm equivalent). This is the best option so far for m4/3 compared to the lumix version and the more expensive V1 of this lens.

Ha ha! Yes, @300mm.

When I first heard about the Lumix one I had high hopes but most seem to say that the Oly is better.

Thanks!

A good way to remember optimal shutter speed is 1/focal length. Thats the general rule of thumb. If you are at 300mm which is 600mm in 35mm equivalent, then its optimal to be at 1/600 for your shutter. Of course you can down the shutter speed by pushing your iso.

The 75-300 II is 48400yen in Yodobashi, Shinjuku, Tokyo. Minimal savings (unless someone can suggest another store in the area- Bic Camera was even more).

Was a bit disappointed by the PQ (just playing around and squinting at the LCD in the shop). I'm trying to lower my expectations compared to my Nikon stuff (300mm 2.8 on 1.7 extender and 1.5 crop body), esp as there's a massive weight and cost saving- but I guess I still need something "useable". Wonder if they'll ever be a more pro tele for m43?

I loved the 75mm tho. However would prob plump for the 60 2.8 if in that range for the macro function.

Uh-- 48400 yen is the ticket price. Can we claim sales tax?

I've got my friend's gold yodobashi card but I guess I'm only helping him to earn points :)

If anyone could shine some light on this I'd be grateful.

Yes - you can claim sales tax - but it has to be done in that shop, only the bigger chains, like yodabashi and bic camera, will have this service.

Why don't you try Amazon JP instead? Prices are better than the retail shops...ask your friend to buy on your behalf and you give him the cash instead of the crappy credit card rates...

Anybody has anything to share about this lens? Thanks.
