Yup. Mark 1 appears to be sharper. Have not done any formal testing yet though.

I find the lens perfectly sharp at 300mm, as long as you have sufficient shutter speed to counter lens shake. usually if it is not sharp, it is my own fault and user error

yaespecially around the 200-300mm focal length .. its quite noticeable.. dont have the mark 1 though ><

I suppose can just bump the ISO. I hate fair weather lenses as generally I don't want to shoot in bright light.
Am I right in assuming we don't have any other options if using a EM5 and desiring autofocus?
Might still pick up this lens when I'm in Japan.

I use my 75mm F1.8 for lower light haha....
you must know that this is a 300mm lens (600mm equivalent). This is the best option so far for m4/3 compared to the lumix version and the more expensive V1 of this lens.

A good way to remember optimal shutter speed is 1/focal length. Thats the general rule of thumb. If you are at 300mm which is 600mm in 35mm equivalent, then its optimal to be at 1/600 for your shutter. Of course you can down the shutter speed by pushing your iso.

The 75-300 II is 48400yen in Yodobashi, Shinjuku, Tokyo. Minimal savings (unless someone can suggest another store in the area- Bic Camera was even more).
Was a bit disappointed by the PQ (just playing around and squinting at the LCD in the shop). I'm trying to lower my expectations compared to my Nikon stuff (300mm 2.8 on 1.7 extender and 1.5 crop body), esp as there's a massive weight and cost saving- but I guess I still need something "useable". Wonder if they'll ever be a more pro tele for m43?
I loved the 75mm tho. However would prob plump for the 60 2.8 if in that range for the macro function.

Yes - you can claim sales tax - but it has to be done in that shop, only the bigger chains, like yodabashi and bic camera, will have this service.
Why don't you try Amazon JP instead? Prices are better than the retail shops...ask your friend to buy on your behalf and you give him the cash instead of the crappy credit card rates...
