New Pro Nikon Camera on June 26th!

Ok now it's rant time:

1) Why can't Nikon develop their sensor instead of relying on Sony's R&D? Sony is, at the end of the day, a competitor. Enough said lah.

go check out canon and sony...they are electronics GIANT...nikon is just a small optical/camera company compared to them.

(2) Why CCD?

why must all sensor be CMOS?

(3) Why Nikon so slow in reacting to competition, especially in the pro market?

whats wrong w D200?

(4) Why pay attention to its users (who have since abandoned them in favour of Canon)?

nikon makes camera. canon makes electronics...needless to say canon stuff will have more bells and whistles that is electronics related.

nikon just makes cameras good enough to takes good picture...

on the contrary, it is nikon that has more electronic bells and whistles like auto iso and in camera retouching and "enhanced dynamic range" option (dunno wat nikon calls it)... all of which i perceive to be gimmicks anyway....

btw... how does canon having a greater range of lens = canon being an electronics maker :dunno:

Because Nikon has been there and done that. In the 80s, Nikon boasted the largest collection of lenses, more than what Canon has now. A lot of them has been discontinued, probably because profit is more important now.

Accecpt or not, need it or not, FF will eventual become a standard in DSLR or even in a PnS.

I don't think FF will be a standard in camera including PnS. Judging from the history, electronics tends to get smaller and smaller. Camera used to be 8"x10" in size, then, medium format, then 135mm, then, APS. The trend will get smaller sensor. It does not mean FF will disappear just as medium format still around. But it will be only for those who need it (e.g. pro who need to print 15x20 or a wall size photo). For normal consumer, it will be smaller and smaller sensor.

The reason is obvious, COST. Cost of silicon is exponentially proportion to the size. A FF sensor is more than 2x a APS sensor and possibly cost at least 4 times. In PnS, they use a sensor that is about 1/18 the size of FF sensor and save a huge amount of money. A FF sensor PnS will be too big and too expensive to compete with a 1/2.5 in PnS camera.

Maybe not pns but in dslr i feel it is likely to happen eventually.... pns are designed to be small and easy to use and are targeted at the general public... dslrs are meant for ppl who want better image quality (size and weight doesn't matter as much)... if canon launches a $1000 FF camera then the rest will have to:

1/ follow and produce a FF cam of their own
2/ produce a sensor in it's current size that can match the canon FF in terms of noise and dynamic range
3/ significantly lower their prices in order to compete....

a $1000 FF might seem far fetch now but what about in 5 / 10 years time...

canon has enough budget for better RnD to give true electronic develpoment. nikon jsut twick here tiwck there to make it seem like development...
again....canon has the resources to delvelop exotic lens just for show and new delvelopment lens like DO etc cos they got $$$. if nikon go big on eg sensor development and fail then someone will have to buy over nikon...what if its the C-company that bought them over:sweat:
