Canon was able to do FF because they make the sensors themselves and they tweaked the stepper to do a 2 step exposure. Who knows how much they have to discard to get a good sensor.

Nikon buys sensor from other manufacturers, they will not want to make sensors that will incur a loss or does not make economical sense. For Canon, it's probably a marketing decision and they are ready to incur that loss.

that's the problem with Nikon. They always relay on others to make sensors for their system.

i doubt anyone of us here has the information to make such a claim...... for all we know the 5d and the 1ds could be models that has the highest profit margin....

ATO = sales / NOA
PM = OI / sales

horhor, sorry, just finished an exam!

they did have their lbcast sensors for the D2h series.

wOW... another FF (or near FF) discussion ;p except it may actually be true this time.

Hmm... I remember some time back there was a fierce discussion about whether Nikon will continue using its DX format and never a FF. It will be interesting to read those posting again :bsmilie:

New camera aside, I'm just wondering whether Nikon would be introducing or rather re-introducing any new/redesigned lenses?

They took off quite a few of their vastly popular, non-DX lenses from their production line so if they are bringing out a FF camera, would they also be bringing back some of these lenses, perhaps re-designed or upgraded with VR, SWM, Nano Coating, etc? :sweat:

If they're not, would the non-DX range be adequately covered?

so, the new camera would have any production problem?

what do you think would be the case for this new camera:

scenario 1: the new batch of camera is the best batch cause Nikon will take extra care to make sure they are the best batch cause review wold be based on the performace of this first batch

scenario 2: the first batch is the worst batch cause any new product will always have some issues which the manufacturer cannot forsee... as such, second or third batch, the problems would have been iron out already..

hmm.... FF... pls... and at an affordable price... nikon, do you hear us?

Agreed; my sentiments too.

They could make do with an "improved" AF 85mm f/1.4D IF... ; addition of ED, and maybe even VR. Hopefully though, by adding "those enhancements", they do not some how sacrifice it's known characteristics... bokeh, etc

But I'm almost sure that the "coming" FF, if it materialise (it will), will have a kind-of-a-HSC to cater for existing DX lens users.

Come on, give me an AFS 70-200mm f/4 VRII ; a lightweight yet able alternative to the AFS/AFD 70/80-200mm f/2.8 for travels.

Nikon gotta improve their lens lineup; something they've been neglecting for too long. But that's for another day, another thread.

For now, it's a wishful dream for FF -- for me. Buying or not buying is another matter. If I do, I'll have to ask the moderator / administrator to change my nick to yyD3X :bsmilie:

:)

whatever lens wishes here, please do take a look at bythom`s list of lens forecasts, pretty reasonable stuff.

I'm a canon user and love my camera to bits..... but I really wish the next pro model from nikon will a be a FF and a really good one at that because it's about time someone gave canon some competition.... a monopoly can only be bad for the consumer....

Well, that sounds like Nikon 15 years ago. ;p

do not worry. Nikon did not hear you or any of us. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

"Counting Down" 4 more days to go:bsmilie: :bsmilie:

For all we know, this time round, Nikon also buying sensor from others, and it's a FUJI sensor they buy. So would you guys still lament on Nikon's practise of buying sensors from others?? :bsmilie:

If go FF, think the market will be flooded with DX lenses at a steal man. So those of us not buying the new cam (esp. if it's FF), get your $$ ready for the B & S mass off-loading of DX lenses :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

I won't mind. If you can't beat them, join 'em.

When (not if) the FF comes, they'll come with support for DX lens.

gosh! camera prices would drop !!!!

Funny you should say that, cause there's also a rumor going around of a Nikon-Fuji tie up. :think:
