[ NEW ] lumix GX7

Will be interested to see RAW comparison soon.
GX7 jpeg looks soft. But the ISO noise looks great.

Dropped by click! and some other shops in Funan yesterday... The information given is quite messy so I have concluded they know nothing.

But what I found out is that the camera will be on sale about 1 week after the event on the 19th. Some say only black is available. Others say it is not packaged with the new 20mm. One even said (before using the lens himself), that there's tremendous improvement on the AF of the 20mm.

Just FYI...

so far the reviews i read abt the 20/1.7 MKII is the AF speed is not improved from MKI. Hope what you said is true :)

Well, I'm not that positive since that chap hasn't got any experience with the new lens. Keeping my fingers crossed though...

Yeah, I'm more inclined to believe reviews that have tested both lenses objectively using the same camera body ;p It just sounds like this person might have been relying on their subjective 'memory' of the old lens, perhaps even with a different body... not surprising if a new shiny lens feels 'better & improved' due to a placebo effect.

AF speed is seemingly improved because of the camera body itself as compared to, say GF1 or GF2.

To be more exact and technical, AF is achieved by reading of signals in the contact points between body and lenses. Current G series lenses (the new small 14-42mm, new 14-140mm) and body has a high digital signal processing speed that allows a faster readout. The 20mm however has not improved in this sense.

Stocks will be in by next week at the official authorized retailers, both colors, with only 20mm kits available at the moment.

I would disregard what the sales person said. Most don't read reviews or even follow the latest trends. From all credible reviews of the 20/1.7 II, it's just cosmetic with new metal covering and nano coating. Same AF with noisy motor

Olympus trade in program does not need actual trade in of old cameras, depending on the dealers you go to.

It is effectively a price drop using a promotional gimmick "trade in" to mask it.

So when will this camera be available in Singapore? :D

Have anyone attended the launch at click? How's it?

At Crossing Bridges 10 today was sponsored by Panasonic and there were 7 special sets of GX7 going around at the photowalk, handled a bit:) Love the grip, love the tiltable EVF (some may not) design (the magnification isn't as good as EM1 though) & the silent electronic shutter. Not to mention the burst mode was so instant, that you can't even see the frames change on screen as the shutter was clicking away quietly. I was still wondering "was there any burst shots taken?"...

Initial impression of the GX7 after using it for about an hour. It's got a really solid feel and looks great. Buttons have good tactile feed back and ergonomically I prefer it to my EM-5, which I have had since the day of the launch in Singapore. I use the EM-5 mainly for macro and ultra tele.

However, compared to the EM-5, the sensor seems less bitingly sharp, with the same lenses. It handles high ISO a little better than the EM-5, but on 100% there is some smudginess, which may be due to more noise reduction. However unless you pixel peep, the impression on viewing the pictures is of greater smoothness at high ISO so for most people it should look pleasant if not better. It is able to focus in far lower light levels than the EM-5. It's crosshair focusing mode (sort of a very precise spot) is where the GX-7 applies gain, magnifies and then focuses when light levels are low. Reminds me of my old Pentax K5. Anyway, it focuses pretty impressively fast in near darkness. With MF and magnified focus peaking, I can also focus much more precisely than the EM-5, say if I want one of two eyeballs in focus. In bright light I would say the GX7 is as fast as the EM-5, which is high praise indeed.

As I'm traveling later this week, I won't be able to give it a true workout until I shoot with my super sharp Oly 60mm macro this weekend. In any case, there are lots of test shots around the internet that one can compare with if one wants. For me, it's a keeper as I prefer the ergonomics and looks to the EM-5, while the EM-1 is probably too pro for me.

I like the grip+tilt VF very much, more so than EP5, even though magnification is not as good as VF4! Here's some done (mine is pre-production set) with 12-35 & 7-14 of today's nice sunset.

So far all looks good and sounds good ; all within expectations and sounds like a worthy buy if compared to the EP5 kit's price when released at around half a k cheaper.

This year is definitely a good yr for MFT bodies with the EM-1, EP-5 and GX-7 haha.

Spent about an hour shooting macro with the GX7 (Olympus 60mm macro lens). Here are some shots. Lizard shot is at ISO1600. Lens looks nice on GX7
