Is it actually worth jumping into Micro 4/3 format to try out M-lenses? I'm a DSLR user and I've always been curious to try rangefinder and leica cameras. Unfortunately I lacked the financial resources in the past (when I had time) and now lack of time to dabble with film again. Judging from Chiff's posting, it appears the NEX camera take better pictures with Voitlander lenses over using Olympus or Panasonic. I'm asking from the perspective that I don't own any of these M lenses to start with.

The beauty of these mirrorless interchangable lens camera is that they allow us to mount all kinds of wierd & exotic lenses without having to pay with kidneys and eye corneas.

But one thing you have to bear in mind, M lenses are best to be used with the M bodies. The experience of using RF cannot be replaced with any cameras. But if you just want to "try" out the M lenses without the RF experience, then it's perfectly fine.

To start off with a collection of M lenses or new system is actually pretty expensive. But one thing good about M lenses is that M bodies are actually pretty affordable... And if you own a M lens, just get a cheap M film body and you still can jump into the RF experience right away...

And be warn... it could be a point of no return... :bsmilie:

Film is actually not that crumble some... and it's actually very rewarding!

The main advantage of the NEX over m43 with M lenses is the crop factor is just 1.5x instead of 2x. You can get stunning IQ with m43 cameras and lenses longer than 35mm.

Get a NEX and a 35mm Summarit 35mm. Form factor and IQ are there in spades; total price still lower than a used M8.2 body!

I did some reading up here and online and seems like there are genuine considerations to weight between both systems.

The Micro 4/3 have mature camera bodies with all the instant manual controls that'll make me comfortable coming from a DSLR. Unfortunately the 2X focal length is an issue and I think I'm going to have to narrow down my view literally. It also appears that there are corner smearing issues with manual lenses for anything below 35mm.

I can see Chiff's nice examples from the NEX5 and I think the camera body makes a good choice. The downside of NEX5 however appears to be the short battery life and also the dummy menu system.

I'm thinking seriously of replacing my DSLR system with these smaller sensor cameras, with the open option of using these sharp prime lenses. Just undecided with is the "better" path to take.

I don't really like the JPG from this camera.
However, I can't opend the raw format :( Adobe LR 3 doesn't support it
Any advises?

:D

Damnit. The pictures make me wish for a NEX5 just to mount rangefinder lenses on. :(

I agree, it can be quite fun. I bought an EPL-1 so that I can use my Leica lens on it. It's a good way to experiment with the lens without shooting rolls of fillms.

The EPL-1 is no Leica M, but I've no complaints about the results. This shot is straight from the camera, shot in jpeg mode.
