It's so discrete. No one will know that we are taking pictures with this little harmless chili padi...

I totally agree with the discretion but the shutter noise is reasonable loud. At times, I find that it's louder than the E-P2. But this is based on "feeling" and not something measured with a scientific tool.

Just bought a voigt 40mm f1.4 and took some photos with the Sony nex5 using RJ adaptor. I find that the field of view is identical with what I am getting at 40mm on my D300 with DX lens. I thought voigt40mm on nex5 should give more tele like around 60mm (1.5 crop) on DX format?

Am I missing something?

Erm. Last I checked, D300 has a 1.5x crop, and a 40mm on the D300 will also be a 60mm lens?

Both nikon D300 and NEX are 1.5x crop sensor. What u get on NEX is what u get on d300. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hmm maybe I'm not clear with my question. The voigt nokton 40mm is a full frame lens right?

D300 with 18-70 dx at 40mm
Nex5 with voigt 40mm

the above gives the same field of view to me.

I'm expecting
D300 with 18-70mm DX at 60mm FOV = NEX5 with voigt 40mm FOV

hi bro silvergetz
the field of view depends also on sensor's cropped factor, not on the lens.
D300 and Nex5 are both 1.5 crop sensor, no matter what lens you put on (FX/DX) you will still get 1.5x the focal length of the lens.
So it is right that you will get 60mm FOV for 40mm on Nex5.
Full frame lens will get its true full frame focal length only on full frame sensor.

I am not getting a 60mm FOV with the nex+voigt combo. This is the puzzling part.

Im getting a 40mm FOV only, just like shooting D300+18-70mm at 40mm.:dunno:

To make thing simple, a 40mm lens will look the same on your NEX and Nikon D300. Simple enough???

bro, D300+18-70mm at 40mm will yield 60mm FOV as well, so of course it will be the same.
if you use D700 at 40mm, you will get true 40mm

Bro, no matter how much u try, Image produce from d300 and nex at 40mm will come out the same. As mentioned both are 1.5x crop sensor. 40mm on 1.5x crop sensor is equivent to 60mm. If u do the maths, 40mm x 1.5x sensor = 60mm. I think u mistaken nex as FF camera?
