Just picked mine up at SLR today. If i am not wrong they only had 1 piece remaining when i left the store. Yet to give it a test run. Lets see if this ousts my 35mm 1.8 out of my limelight of my Cam's F-mount.

Have never been a fan of the 50mm focal length on a DX camera. Maybe you'll feel differently

You will lovethis lens. The BOKEH is one of a kind.
So so better than the 35mm f1.8 DX in BOKEH

All right guys, here is the photo comparison first. I'll talk about it in my next post.
Firstly, BOKEH comparisons !
Order of comparison : 50mm is featured first, followed by the 35mm.
Basis of comparison, the settings used for both lenses were EXACTLY the same and i tried to compose the photos are identically as i could hand held.
Naturally since its lenses of DIFFERENT focal lengths, discrepancies were inevitable.
1) Bokeh test. I have concluded the 50mm is generally smoother then a baby's bottom. The 35mm's bokeh is much more "busier" in a sense. BUT still pretty decent.

A quick dictation of my first impressions.
I am pretty new to the 50mm Prime scene and i have to say i enjoy it. In my opinion it gives me a composition of almost of the same magnitude of my eye sight. Which i found very comfortable when shooting outdoors. I have yet to use this lens for more everyday-walkaround disposition. However as of now, i will rather bring along my 35mm as a everyday lens which i have been doing so for about just little over a year now.
Yes, i'll stop with the "ooo what focal length is the best" DISCLAIMER: Do not ask questions like what focal length you should use for blah blah blah event, its a dimwitted question and that question can only be answer for yourself. Take your kit lens, tape it down at 35mm and then tape it down at 50mm for fx cams or 75mm for DX cams and go shoot the world to see which will sit well in your stomach.
Over all, i loved the smoother bokeh produced from the 50mm and the ergonomics of both lenses are very similar. It feels well constructed, looks well constructed too. Specifications such as the elements within the lens and what not can be found on a thousand other websites, go feed yourself the information via Google. I've had the opportunity to use the 50 1.8d too. Generally i rather spend the extra $100 bucks or so for the generally better "feel", improved colors, smoother bokeh and the AFS system which makes the 50 1.8D sounds like a mechanical robot taking a **** as it hunts through its focus range in contrast to the 50 1.8G which is as loud as a fart from a mouse.

PS: If you want to see the bokeh of night lights and all that pretty little circular blobs of light, please check out other websites online which have made very indepth comparisons.

Oh yes, for the corner fall off test I stopped both lenses down to f5.6.
