This is a point that I agree with and am not ashame to admit. I first went into photography because of my interests in taking photos, but when I went into SLR, it was because I was also interested in the technical aspects of it, as well as the hardware that I can play around with. If not I might as well just stick with a compact camera right?TYM said:If I can keep up, I sure will. I see that as an independent factor to my other aspects of my photography or life. No need to take offence. I love photography and cameras equally much, just as I spent as much time on each aspect of them. I believe if i love/ respect my camera I will strive to get more out of it. If that fuels my passion and interest even more, why not? If it is more accessible, and more people take up photography and develop a passion for this beautiful art/hobby, whats the harm? If not for digital photography and what manufacturers strive to make digital photography so affordable, so exciting and help us get make photography more attainable, I would never have found this beautiful art.
I believe photgraphy is both about the ART and MACHINE itself. I would strive to build on both. New things MAY let you do things better, achieve what you want easier and faster, and get more satisfation at the end of the day. I don't want to question those pro on "why the heck you buy your $16K EOS 1D or Medium-format cameras, why don't you build on your skills instead?" There's a reason somehow i am sure

Newer stuff doesn't make the older ones any less useful!
