need views for buying accessories from DD ELECTRONICS?

I pretty much expected this... This fever is contagious...
What's worrying is it might affect the local ADs..

Unless Canon Singapore announce an increase in price, I doubt the AD will increase theirs.

In the first place, I do not think Canon Singapore will increase price now, in fact the pressure is on them to reduce price given what has happened in Malaysia.

I believe the grey market is the one affected. I will say that is a good move by Canon. If they continue to reduce their price, who will want to buy from grey market, ever :dunno: ?

It's hard to predict...
If everybody flocks to ADs and demand is high, they may increase..
If iam not wrong ADs usually give certain percent of discounts from canon list price...
Which means,ADs still have a choice of not to give discounts off the list price..
If demand is too high too handle,I believe ADs do have the rights to sell higher than list price but I think the demand won't reach that level yet as these products are mass production..unless the mother factory is being affected by the tsunami to cease production, which it wasn't..

I agree.

But so far so good. I wanted to buy a 2nd DSLR, so just called up to check on the pricing of 60D. Am surprised that it has dropped to $1320 for the body only. That's good news. I think Canon Singapore are logical people, so I have quite good confidence that they will not increase their RRP at least, unless Canon increase their price worldwide.

Price hike dont buy from them la...vote with your wallet...
Anyway I don't believe in buying brand new lens, no matter how cheap it is...you take the depreciation hit immediately upon purchase... :D

Erm true, but think of it another way. after 1 year your lens value could still be comparable to local lens. In some way depreciation is lesser compared to local set

i understand your point..
i wouldn't mind buying a preowned if the condition is good and price is reasonable..
usually i compare from the cheapest source(it was DDE and Artworkfoto, maybe now is malaysia) of brand new piece and less at least 20% depending on the package and warranty status of a preowned one..otherwise,i had rather get a brand new one even though its a grey unit..
but as we should know, before DDE prices increased, there are some people who still sells at a price close to DDE without warranty...
now that DDE increased their prices which seemed to be a hot topic,i can sense that some sellers are increasing their prices too..
however, there are still some good deals we can find in the BNS folder, but these good deals are usually snapped up very fast...

Have been trying to get a decent deal on BNS but its almost impossible comparing to the grey set market out there especially from DD before the price hike. Totally agree that sellers will increase their price in BNS too...

Just a thought...

Canon USA had a series of rebates early this year and last month. Assuming that DDE gets their stock from USA, the prices you saw earlier were probably due to the rebates, hence they can afford to price it so low. Now that the rebates are over. The new shipments coming in will be comparatively higher priced. In order ot maintain the same margin as before, they have to increase their selling price, so much so to the extend that it seem to have incurred the wrath of many people here...

i still don't get it. say for Canon 7D body it cost 1,399 USD in there export site but in there local site it cost 2,109 SGD.
convert USD 1,399 * 1.26 = SGD 1,762.74 + 7% GST = SGD 1,886.13 .

DD price used to be cheaper than that

So...how do you think they can get such price? Still need to factor in shipping to SG leh...thats why I always feel their pricings are not sustainable...=/

Many buyers switching to artworkfoto.com for grey sets now, you can see from the replies in the marketplace: mass sales forum.
Bad move for DD_electronics.

I can assure you that most people will not be able to get their stuff quickly from artworkfoto, because they are always out of stock :)

Yup just checked with my favourite shop. It is cheaper than our local shops, around $100, and comes with 2 yrs warranty. I was checking on 17-40. Basically u will get lens at around DDE rate before hike in price, but with 2 yrs canon warranty.

btw where is ur favorite shop ??

I called DD to check if their website quoted price is valid. Apparently, yes. Was interested in 70-200 f4L IS USM. The sales guy, Azman, told me that they give a further 2% discount for cash payment.
Hope someone can tell me, are their product reliable (Azman told me the lens is from Japan)

cherio

Yes, they are reliable. U can proceed buying stuff from them, but they only provide shop warranty

There was a poll in consumer corner with the title "Which shop offers a better price and good customer service?" It is appalling that DDE is not in the list.....

I have bought items from many shops. In my opinion, DDE comes out top in the area of customer service. Mike and Azman are really 2 pleasant and friendly guy. Even when they are busy, they will also not ignore you. This shop sets the standard for customer service in Singapore for me.....you will not be disappointed. And in terms of reliability, it is surely a 10/10. Go search through the whole forum and see if you can find one complain against them. :)

Yes, I strongly support what wolfton said. I have bought many items from them before, be it expensive or cheap items, they still provide good service! You must know which item can buy and which item not worth buying. I prefer to head down to their store and pay cash to enjoy the 2% discount. And if you ride bike there, you can park your bike right infront of their store which is only one step away! But to be honest, their pricing dun seem attractive now compare to last time.

Since a few months back their price have shoot up. Their pricing for many canon lens are much higher than in the past, very close to local set. You can get much better deal for grey import on the mass sale. So IMHO, not worth it to buy from them.

Yes, they are nice and friendly, but if the price is not right then I would rather buy from others.

I am the opposite, I only buy brand new lenses...:) Cos I know people who drop their lens and then sell off. Even the lens may seems to work properly, but you never know what will happen later. You never know how the lens has been abused before. I rather pay $300 - $400 more for a peace of mind. Buying new grey is better than pre-owned.
