need views for buying accessories from DD ELECTRONICS?

just got the call from one of their friendly staff and told me 1st hand what really is going on...

1st, the guy told me that they're not taking advantage of the situation...

now here's the story, DDE is ordering on a weekly basis, so the lower priced lenses that was bought before the quake was sold out already. the higher priced lenses that they have now are the orders after the quake which they got it also at a higher price from their supplier. once their suppliers decrease the price, they'll decrease as well...

that explains the sudden price increase...

*these are not the exact words but roughly the summary of our conversation*

Time for them to change supplier???

I don't see any other place increasing price other than DDE. Not even BnH and Amazon.

Hmm, but the cheaper lenses which are made in malaysia/taiwan have also increased in price...

I think they increase their price for all models...
Are their sales so good that they can sell all models so fast considering they carry quite extensive range??
The last check on their price for 50mm f1.4 was on last fri night at 7+pm at sgd599..
And on the same day at 10+pm I checked it went up to sgd669...
Before the increment was sgd510 around wed-thur that I checked..
So how come price increased twice within a few days since he mentioned ordering weekly?fishy??

I spoken to my fren who works at the local shop on weekend..No increase in Canon stuff yet..

DDE if you are reading this, please ask your supplier to wake up their idea.

When more people buy DSLR, it means cost of production will go down due to volume. Please don't use the Tsunami as an excuse. Moreover, the Canon DSLR and lens plant in Japan is not affected.

In addition, what Kangdi said is so true. Did Malaysia and Taiwan meet with Tsunami also, and did their factory close down because of that

If what DDE said is true, then that supplier need to be scrapped. Total crap :sticktong

i believe they're reading our posts as per the sales guy i spoke with...

Just hope that the price hike fever will not spread to other shops...
If not, really have to turn to Malaysia to boost their economy...

Oh well, I am glad I ordered my stuff before the price went up but yes, the consumers will flock to where the prices are the most competitive. I will be casting my sights at HK or MY for my future buys if the prices remain uncompetitive even I love the guys at DDE! Friendly and funny bunch of people. They even showed me photography tips!

well jus spoken to someone frm DD, who very patiently explained to me that its really a case of supplier increasing prices..of course, everyone can choose whether to believe...but

I'm sure that they're very aware of the pricing situation and how it affects competitiveness, so I reckon we can adopt a wait n see for now...
Surely they'll want to make their prices competitive again knowing there're many willing Grey buyers, just common biz sense.

Bro, need not to be so angry. That's their choice to sell whatever price they think is feasible.

I think i'll just stick to buying products supplied by Canon Singapore... the little extra money in exchange for peace of mind is worth it, i think. At least if you happen to get a 'lemon', you can always return to CSC and get it serviced/replaced.

Just went n collected my 17-55 today. Was at the shop for quite a while n saw how the guys were contacting their clients n explaining to them the reason in price change. All I can say is that they are really customer-oriented!

On the other hand, Artworkfoto started to raise their prices also

Is it necessary to rush for equipment now? Just let the price goes up, eventually the price will come down.

Buy what you need now & not keep for the price to go up.

Those who bought at high price will have a big lost.

My 2 cents

I pretty much expected this... This fever is contagious...
What's worrying is it might affect the local ADs..
