My PowerShot S5 IS

I was a S3 user, now S5. I would say "no" to your question, unless you are dying to get a larger LCD or hotshoe. By the way, intervalometer is gone. Continuous shooting mode is also down to only 1.5 fps.

and if you are looking for good low light performance, forget about S5... the low light is as lousy as my A570IS :bsmilie: i played with S5IS in canon shop in vivo city just now... :sweatsm:

HELP! How come my EVF has fingerprint smudge on the inside??? will canon clean it for me?

From the exif of the photo, it read 1 sec exposure time. Did you really handheld the camera for 1 sec for this shot? Its amazing!

one thing about canon powershot series... its low light photography is bad, as in if u use ISO 800 and above.. tried ISO 1600 in viviocity canon shop with this S5IS, realised the noise is as bad as the A570IS which i am having  :dunno:

Took a handheld shot in my study room just now...

100% crop...

:)

this is taken with ISO80, so it should be quite clean... i tried with ISO800, 1600.. the results was a major turn off... powershot series still lose bigtime in low light photography

tks... night shot, ISO 100/200 flash assisted with a reasonable shutter speed, handheld with IS on.. possible to get good images?

looking on the images S5 takes, ISO 400 and above wun be reasonable... reeli wonder i can hit 1/1000 shutter with ISO200 :bsmilie:

side track abit, i took this photo in shanghai on a moving cruise boat with Powershot A570IS, using Digic III technology too... note that no tripod nor flash was used..

ISO250, 1/8 exposure, hand held, no post processing was used..

played with a S5IS in vivocity, canon shop.. realised its high ISO800, 1600 is as bad as the entry level powershot A570IS

S5's ISO800 is still usable. But ISO 1600 is more noisy le, can use unless u want to print large sized pics.

hi guys..

just gotten my S5. wanna ask whether u guys are using 52mm or 58mm adapters for ur S5.

thanks

got the 52mm raynox one from jim. cool guy.

Eh. I was quite determine to buy this camera when i compared it with the other semipros.

but after i saw quite a number of online reviews and photos taken by this camera, i have my doubts.

Noticed the problem the being v. noisy at high ISO, vignetting telephoto end, and if im not wrong, barrel distortion?! (i see some of the photos of building, the buildings like curve inwards on both sides of the pic leh...)

Is it me just being fussy, or is it really a problem?
cause for the same price can fetch a 2nd hand Canon 350D liao.

I've no problems with any vignetting on the tele end of my S5 IS. However if u use the wide conversion lens and zoom to tele end, purple fringing is more evident.

Vignetting ain't really much of e problem.

I just came back from some camera shopping n tried out the tasty looking S5 again.
everything looked good but barrel distortion spoilt it all O.o

i took 3 straight lines (on a cupboard) and it turn out to be like some curve on the 2 extreme ends of the photo. It seemed slightly bent O.o Don't u all realise that problem?! or is it my eyes...

its really a lovely cam...

Mild barrel distortion isn't too bad if it's symmetrical; when it's asymmetrical, like this, it can get seriously disorienting. Several photos where I knew I had aimed dead-on had a perspective as if I'd shot from the side. Here, the S5 IS's lens squeezes the left side vertically, though the right side is straight. (Shot at 36mm-equivalent; guidelines overlaid in Photoshop.)

I took borrowed this image from http://www.flickr.com/photos/peksh78/

using photoshop, added some simple (but ugly) 90degree, perpendicular, straight lines.
in the center of the photo, where the blue line is, the building looks straight,
but as it goes towards the sides, the buildings seem to be leaning O.o
i dunno whether is it normal due to the angle.
but it seems serious n bothers me O.o

Looks like singapore has its own leaning towers (building) of pisa le

At wider angles there's definitely bound to have distortion, even in DSLR lenses. U simply can't use those straight lines as comparison UNLESS u're using a tilt-and-shift lens.
