My picture is on newspaper.

Yes, get them to pay you.
They won't be so kind to you if it was the other way around.

Happened to the cycling group I am in. They asked for an interview, we were happy to give one, but when we had it published on the club website, they sent letter asking for money.

manz...that's absolutely disgusting~ it's time for u to call them now

Well, some questions here:
1) Did you water mark your image?
2) Did you legally copyright your image? (I don't think any of us here do in Singapore)
3) What resolution did you set when you up load onto the internet or facebook for this instance?

Just call them and they said that they can't give me money, they said if I want money they ask me to send a lawyer letter.

Ya I did water mark on my image, but I did not legally copyright my image.

so whats ur next call? send in lawyer letter? seem like they bochap you lor.

STOMP it

Lol can someone help me to stomp it lol, cause I don't have a account.

Did u record down the teleconversation?
maybe can STOMP this, at the same time find a lawyer to claim this. Can't just let them do this.

yes, SPH could be muscling their way around, thinking that the fees a lawyer charges wouldn't justify your effort to engage them.
But i recommend you go ahead to shop for a competitively priced lawyer to further your case. Do what's right for the cause and not the costs.

You should include a copyright clause in your site. If they download from your site, then it constitutes a violation.
If the same pic is capture from any other source other than your site, they can technically be shielded as the resource is capture from a public domain.
eg. if they download the pic via a link in clubsnap, it's public domain.

I think if each cs members chip in 10cent or so......u might ve enough to cover ur legal fees...

One suggestion, do contact their editors or higher...
The person whom u talked to might be just some workers playing taiji.

so does citing a copyright clause in every post of photos we post in Clubsnap protect us? Or we should simply slap a big border containing all the copyright clause in all our pics

I don't think she is the editors, cos she said that the editors went oversea.

If that is your watermark - that is good news. Bad news is it was not a copyright watermark right. But since it has the watermark the news paper has save you the trouble of proving you are the author. If they did ask you to enforce your claim and you did not give them the picture for their use, email them back for their circulation numbers as you are framing your legal claim for unauthorized copyright usage which normally goes like this $X times the number of printed copies. This number can be found there is a body that the publications need to report on circulation number - asking for that was a quiet threat.

Contact moderators for help.

Something must be done, I believe the whole CS community will give you support.

Maybe I will go down SPH tml.

Any lawyer friend you can speak to first? Maybe it would be better to understand your rights and where you stand in this case first before speaking to them. If not, they would most likely push you around and taichi you out of the door.

Yes. Go ahead. We will support you!!
