If i used my cannon flash, do i need to change my WB setting to Flash setting or should i be keeping it at Auto.

Hi,
according to dpreview and those seminar talk, usually when U fix in your flash, camera automatically set to flash mode. It just that the camera don;t show as it remain in "Auto WB"

Usually I work on bounce flash light for my wedding or studio shoot. My setting will be auto WB as there is mix surrounding light + flash light.

What I explaining is base on my way and experience on photo shoot. It might not applicable to you. My best advice like the other photographer out there, reach early and test your camera setting before the show start. So try on the setting with Expodisc setting, without the setting..., different tone.

Btw, if U going for those singing concert hall, try not to flash. :)
Beside the high ISO on your camera with a little noise at the backgound, black & white setting or grey setting, spot metering look nice on the photo.

This is pretty cool. I may want to get the ExpoDisc. Is it selling here in SG or do i need to get it online?
Also, if i use my flash, i assume i dont need to use the ExpoDisc, right?
One more question.... if i need to take a shot on the lighted stage (from a distance), say in a dark auditorium and i assume i just put on the ExpoDisc and take a shot at at the lighted stage and set my custom WB. Is that simple, right?

All my previous canon dslr, 10D, 20D, 400D don't have AWB issue. That is I always use AWB whithout problem. But when I change to 5DII, @#$%^^$@

I also have color cast issue with mine, green tint. later I play with picture style, seems to solve the problem. But I forget which one I use right now, either neutral or faithfu. See if this solve the problem. Else

Wow, it looks worst then mine green tint. Yes, I saw simlar issue. How do you go by it? Wonder if my 5DII AWB is bad.

But I must agree that manual AWB fix it but I just don't understand why more ex AWB can't do the job while all my other canon dslr don't have this problem.

If yes, then this is not a white balancing problem bro... :)

If your shutter speed is above 1/100, it slower then the speed of fluorescent light that flicker, bouncing off the wall casing the colour discolouring.
I set my ISO to 4000 so that capture the moment of my baby boy. But it turn out that the fluorescent light speed is not fast enough.
If light source is fluorescent light, speed for camera should be 1/80 and below. I verify with the canon technical support.

But I must agree that 10D , 20D, 40D and the rest of the "D" don;t have these issue.

That depends on the ambient light and whether your flash will be main source of light or just fill flash. Do yourself a favour and get a proper guide (e.g. book) to white balance and flash photography. It's a complex topic that needs a good understanding.

You have to go and test further and think what is the problem and tune the camera accordingly.

Areas includes, ambient light. If ambient light is visible, a flash may not be able to change it all.

Light bounce off from table and chairs. Skin for example are prone to getting tinted.

Bouncing light color depends on the color of the surface bounce from. White to your eyes may not actually be white.

Various material have different reflection percentage, e.g a lacquer table will reflect the table color many more times than a dull one.

Fast mean less noticeable flicker, does not mean light don't reach. If there is no light, it will be darkness.
