Does any escalator manufacturer provide an option for a soft stop, one that slows it down gradually instead of a dangerous sudden stop?

......I think they should all kebelakang pusing instead of squashing into one another ...... unless you have one of those who like to come from behind ........ :p

The experience may be a rewarding for some if there are aunties in the crowd.

Well, I expect their trains to run without fault too.....
that is not a reasonable expectation. Anything elect or mechanical, it is bound to have failures. Even you visit a doctor, he can't guarantee you will not die right?

try telling that to commuters stuck in malfunctioning trains and late for work...... or maybe tell that to yourself the next time you stuck in a train.

No technology or SOP will help if people just walk like zombies, staring at their screens and are oblivious to what's happening around them .
But then, you should be happy about these little hiccups - keeps the people talking, shouting, complaining .. being entertained ..

Exactly my sentiments. They're immune to what's going on around them...

The term to describe this type of situation is:

Tau Pok

Literally means 'fried tofu'. By students who throw themselves on one another in a pile, usually for fun or to bully. Special cases with vertical tau pok where a person gets squashed against a vertical object, found in MRTs on a crowded day.

I think Ang Moh called it Sardine long time ago. :)
That describes the situation once they are inside the train :) Here I'd say that dodo or lemmings fits better :bsmilie:

Sardine is a static case when everyone's already packed in.
Tau Pok refers to the dynamic case when the sandwiching/stacking action is in progress, like in the gif.

Of course we get frustrated when things did not work out the way we expected but you don't take it upon the people serving you.

Customer is NOT King. If the services keep breaking down, then that is another issue. You or members within your family maybe also a service provider. I am sure we don't like to be abused.

Are you willing to pay more for better service? Then maybe should get yourself a chauffeur!

I don't see why we can't take it upon the service providers when services fall short.

I have no problem paying more but can anyone guarantee better services with increased fares? Anyone?

and is it a coincidence that "world class transportation" no longer hangs around the lips of politicians anymore?

Worst and world ... only 2 letters apart and yet some could not pronounce the words properly ....... :)

Or let people bid for rides in the trains loh..... 2 categories, COE for either standing or sitting. Valid for 10 years. Sure can earn enough to make shareholders happy one.

But don't worry. Trains are for everyone. Those who can't afford to bid for a space in the trains still can travel in style.....

i am a service provider myself. when i **** up, i don't give excuses and ask the customers if they are willing to pay more for better service. they will simply go somewhere else. However we only have one MRT operator. we don't have a choice. if we don't take it out on them, then who ? the transport ministers ?

We have 2 operators actually but you are right, commuters don't have choices.

pregnant mummies would be the most affected
