Hello!!! It's been a while, hope you guys are doing well. :)

Just some questions...
I'm finally going to get a new camera body, 40D in 2 weeks time, yay!
So I'm thinking of modifying my 300D to an IR DSLR but just wondering if it's worth the time n effort...
Cuz as we all know, the Canon cameras have a higher tendency of hot spotting compared to Nikons, put will modifying a Canon change that hot spotting tendency?

Can you hand hold a modified IR Canon camera?

And apart from the US, can I modify my 300D in Singapore instead?

Thanks for your time and input! :)

you can PM deadpixel for advice. he's the whiz of modding cams for IR. :)

I believe Steven from Camera Hospital may be able to help as well.

Yes, you can hand-hold a converted camera. You will be able to use the same shutter speeds as you can with a normal camera in the same situation. That is one reason to do the modification. You will not be able to use it for normal photography once it is modified.

didnt know steven does modification also now

Yah... Can someone confirm that he can do mods??? and which models???

Not sure about the details, but I guess the best thing to do is to call n check

i doubt steven do mod for infrared. You should try it yourself, I tried. its not that difficult, i'm not trained in electrical or electronic stuff. But I am able to do it. So I believe you can also.

Dun ask me to do it, because I'll charge more than what the camera's worth...

if you DONT put the IR filter inside and use it as a filter, you may still take normal photo with a cc1 filter, but you will not able the see anything from viewfinder when you take with IR filter

Steven does modding for infrared. Just call him and check.

Max, fwah liao! But, not like my camera is worth much nowadays anyway, haha! But thanks for ur help, :) I'll attempt to DIY it with some help from my dad, haha.

Which model did you modify anyway? And do you get as much hot spotting after modifications?
Cheers!

I mod a canon 300D too.;) not really many hot spots, really depends on lens... I use cheap lens like tamron 18-200 & peleng 8mm. no hot spot. but my sigma 10-20 got hot spot some times.

Cool, thanks for all your help Max! And Happy Belated Birthday! :)
Will go ahead with the modification once i'm back in sg.

Did you have any focus issue with your self- modded camera? I have read that IR focuses slightly differently and that places that do conversions will adjust the focus for you.
