Whenever the host introduces the girls at those events like Miss World, Universe etc.., they Always says "The worlds most beautiful" women.. etc etc..

So, it's very clear what should matters most in the pageant.. looks..

Why make the pageant so complicated and put so much emphasis on the contestants' wit, speech, talent etc..

Yes they can make the contest more interesting but Looks should always be the first priority when judging the contestants. It's the minimum requirement. Not necessary a pretty face, but grace, elegance, poses etc.. all contribute to looks. When all the contestants have the "looks", then the other attribute can set them apart and stand out among the rest. But w/o the looks, all the other talents seems meaningless to the contest/show..

If all the other attributes are so important, then they should change the phrase to "the worlds most outstanding (or whatever) women..", and don't use the word "beautiful"..

To be fair, you could be right.

After all, the flashes, if not probably diffused, would highlight defects and amplify imperfections.. when you see them in person, you depended only on ambient light.. any scene illuminated by flashes wouldn't last a fraction of a second and would not be "seen".

i attend a mini workshop on lighting before, so what the speaker said was, nowadays, in terms of lighting, pp's taste has shifted, in the past everyone wants everything to be properly exposed, now shadow is the in thing, at least for the customers he has encountered, so his job as a studio potrait is easy since they want shadows and all. life easier for him.
