Have you manage to try with your widest lens than 50mm on this adaptor ? Does it help in the AS compare to normal (no-chip) adaptor ?

it'll will help with focussing & AS for lenses 50mm (standard) or other focal lengths (deluxe)

Nope, it does not seem to help with AS.. only focus confirmation is useful.

Have tried a CZJ 29mm and 35mm on the standard (50mm) adapter, but i still can tell any difference, probably because i was testing at night in very low light.

Need to do more testing when I have the time (during day time, of course).

The AS mechanism apparently requires the lens focal length information to work properly. This focal information is missing with normal M42 adapter and apparently it's better to turn AS Off for this. With the haoda adaptor, the focal length information is now available to the camera and AS now work better.

Some test with AS On and Off with normal adaptor and haoda adaptor (read all) .... http://dyxum.com/dforum/forum_posts.asp?TID=16489&PN=1

To use the haoda adaptor, there are some steps that need to be done to have the camera recognise the focal length from the adaptor .... http://dyxum.com/dforum/forum_posts.asp?TID=15698

For the haoda adaptor, it's not just for the focus confirmation, the AS is suppose to work better as well, provided the lens focal length matches the haoda setting.

Mr Tan, thanks for the info. fortunately, i read the post in dyxum forum before buying the adapters. My deluxe adapter caused my 5D to hang and produce a frightening "buzzing" (because Mr Haoda did not send the instructions on how to use the deluxe adapter). But I recall him providing the instructions in that post - so that saved the day.

Indeed, my tests shows that the AS works perfectly fine with lenses that match the focal length that Haoda has "pre-programmed" into the chip.

When i tried a "wrong" lens onto the adapter (eg. CZJ 35mm on the "standard" 50mm adapter), the AS seems to either have no effect or worsen the sharpness. But because I did the test in low light, I can't decide if the lack of sharpness is due to the wrong focal lenth or my Parkinson's Disease.

All in all, I am perfectly happy with the adapters :) Just wish that Haoda has one programmed for 35mm :(

Thanks...looks like need to wait till haoda provide a version with 35mm, 16mm and 8mm, or better still hope SONY does what PENTAX does to K100D, a MENU for you to set the focal length when using manual focus lens.
