OK guys UPDATE!
I've checked with a lot of places. The cheapest i got so far was still CP. E other stores' quotes were much higher. Cos CP carries at least 20 units from em each time. The price they gave me was $558 including 4% GST per unit based on sale of 15 sets. Yeah sad thing is not much discount. But he says if we've at least 20, then we'll be able to secure better prices. I'd check with em for 25 sets see how. But at this amount if every1 does indeed wanna buy, we'll be able to get directly from minolta. I'll try that too. Do wait up for final confirmation, i'd update daily.

try to get an e-quote before you go to CP, some Csers report that they sometimes give lower price when you request for a quote using their website.

considering the number of buyers, 25 so far, CP *should* give you a better price....

i got this scanner in december 2002 at CP marina sq, i think this is the month that the scan dual iii was initially made available by minolta, and the price then was SG$550 including GST.

hmmm... since then the price virtually has not changed ? the $8 difference must be due to the higher tax rate...

The seller must give us a good price. After all, slide scanners are not so popular now due to the digital camera craze. If they still drag their feet in order to keep their profit margin high, they can never hope to sell so many scanners at 1 time in a long long time, if ever.

Even if we are only buying 10 sets, the price ought to be very competitive.

as i was at peninsular yesterday, i just dropped in at CP and asked about the price, without quoting any number of units. i was quoted $559 (ok, did not check about GST). looks like CP did not give any (or maximum 4%) discount.

CP's e-quote is very slow. You'll have to call them, or even better, pay them a visit, to get a quote.

Wow..
The samples shown were horrible. I think the negatives might have been at fault....perhaps they were underexposed and corrected by the lab...which accounts for the grain.

the pic is probably underexposed which resulted in the grain but still it looks a bit extreme.

I don't have such problems. I used multi-sample scanning (set to 8 samples). It increases the scan times but results in much cleaner scans.

i got response aredi guys. Sad to say their profit margin from minolta is too low.. and thus they're unable to give us a better price even though we've like 27 ppl. That's an amount of

$558 x 27 = $15066

Ap is worse they gave a quote of $620.

so now i'm not sure wat to do, scanner is gonna help he says but awaiting news from him. I guess this MO is not gonna happen unless we get any better price. So if any1 is in a hurry to get this i suggest u all go ahead. If no news by next wk, i'd prob get it next SEED.

As for the samples, i think it's due to underexposure. I've not seen such grains from other samples be4. Anyway wat do u expect.. this is a low-priced scanner which performs 'almost' as well as a hi-end 1.
