4WD? nothing in Armour has 4WD since everything has more than 4 wheels :p

only the MBTs have the ability to really ROTATE on the spot as one track can go forward while the other goes "gostan". Don't think Bionix can do that, it can do what the M113 and AMX can do, a pivot turn. But I don't know, I'm pretty sure I could manage to pivot turn an M113 in less than 30s. :p

it was a proto-type....the actual bionix in service now, looked different from the one i saw. And the proto-type really did pivot 180....something in the center push the vehicle up and it turned....like a turntable...looked amusing though. haaa

the 155mm Self Propelled Howitzer??

Heehee.. That's my NS toy. First batch (read: problems everywhere u turn). Actually speculations that we would never get a M1A1 are probably true since we seem to have a very distinct of idea of how heavy our armour gets. Not only that, the footprint of the vehicle to be able to move effectively in jungle-ish terrain. That's one reason why we didn't just buy the American Paladin 155mm SPH instead. It's too big/heavy. Other stuff i don't know if i can mention...

The reason American are giving up the idea of a heavy armour, because it doesn't fit in the new warfare. M1s abraham have been around since the late 80s they are not replacing it or research a new one to replace becuse they found to deploy them oversea or anywhere other where they are will take a lest one week. In a fast pace information era battle it is like war over before they can be deploy. The two Gulf war have shown light armour like M2 Bradley, Stryker and even our bionix will do better. As they are easier to deploy and able to move in forrested area and urban enviroment better. US army have in fact replace six battlion of their M1s units to Stryker that a replacement of 300 vehicles. Stryker can be deploy anywhere in the world less then four days by C130, C5 and others tranport aircraft. Information is the new pet project of the new age armed force. Stryker is one such vechicle where they have very good completely high tach commucation, up to date battle information and command system embedded to the vechicle. That where the new armour warfare is heading light weight, faster, able to move easier in mutli terran vechile. That have better punch use high tech projectile, which is easy deploy and transport with up to date battle information system and direct link up with the command. I belive Singapore Armed Force are going to that direction also. :sweatsm:

Or how about a tank that has the following features?

- 1x 100mm Artillery Gun
- 8x Anti-Tank Guided Missiles
- 2x 50mm Anti-Aircraft Guns
- 2x 20mm Gattling Guns
- 2x M203 grenade launchers
- Can carry up to 1 Platoon of Armoured Troopers with each trooper having a maximum load of 30kg
- A maximum speed of 150km/h
- Armour plating thick enuff to sustain direct hits against small arms fire, LAWs and Strafting Fire frm Fighter Planes

And there u go! All-in-one tank!

1 platoon = 50 fellas...

big tank.. muchiam fish tank liao.

i think all planes use missles against tanks except for the A-10.. but its uranium slugs can pretty much go thru anything.. so.. yea, tanks are useless against air.

Yeh, still cant figure out why they retired the A-10.

The nickname may be give you some clue "Warhog" The Apache Longbow helicopter or the new Comapache helicopter replace most of A-10 role

Guys - there are a few prototypes of the new light tank being developed. This was already published in International Defense Digest.
The chassis tested are Bionix, one from United Defense (Primus/Bradly) and another based on the US xM8 light tank chassis.
The guns tested are 105mm and 120mm.

As good as it was, nothing can beat the al'mighty dollar. When you can't get funding for your new toys, you just have to retire the old ones.

Multi-strike capable fighters like the current f-16 & f-18 make CAS aircraft obsolete.

I believed they retired the A10 in favour of the Apache attack helicopters.

To add on to my desired tank, I believe a force field would be nice too ;)

Electromagnetic barrier? Still kinda crap.

Plasma Force Field is still da best.

Well General Shin wasn't just giving up on heavy armour, he is giving up tracks! I am of the opinion that heavy armour (i.e. MLC40 upwards) is not suitable for our terrain, but go fighting in wheels? well I'm just glad I didn't have to do that.

hi

its a pity e a10 fell out of favor. i've always felt the a10 is the ultimate nightmare for ground troops, partly also due to its menacing shape and its hellish appearance!

during the first Iraq War, enemies were known to tremble & surrender at the sight of the a10s ;) in fact, they had a nickname for them, Devil something. can't remember....

i would feel safer in an a10. Just count how many Apache crashes there have been in Iraq - and reports abound of electronic failures due to the heat & dust in e Middle East.

a lot of e crashes are in non combat situations. one hit to the main rotor and that's it :P

f16s and f18s cannot completely replace e a10s in e CAS role! they are not made to take small arms fire or AA guns in a low & slow flying close air support mission...

i read that those Stryker vehicles aren't quite what the DoD made them out to be - there was a controversy surrounding them right?

Devil's cross, due to the cross like shape when seen from below. I guess there is a fair amount of mission overlap between the A10 and attack choppers, probably too much to justify keeping them both. Equipment like the A10 and M1 Abrams are legacy from the Cold War, nice for stopping big Soviet armoured columns getting all the way to the English channel, less useful for modern warfare.

I love flying the A10 and doing the CAS mission in the Ex Mapleleaf in Jane's USAF :) you can fly very very low in the A10, even in a flight sim you can tell the difference.

amongst other things, it is supposed to be airportable by C130, but it could not get into a C130 hold unless the tyres are deflated.

our Bionix was submitted for selection too, but of course it is way too heavy so they make a slim-down version by removing the applique armour (I think) but at least it could RORO the C130s as is.

That might be the way our armour is heading. Stryker is a 8x8 vehicle.
