I think Bionix is fully amphibious. The "prototype" you saw maybe either the AMX APC or the M113 Ultra under trial.

guys in dark blue overalls = non-SAF contract staff? :p

It should ba a AMX 10 P

Is AMX 10 P phasing out? :dunno:

haha i like this idea.... talk abt mobile force... er... btu recoil from m16, might kick us off the bike leh.....

recoil from M-16. you must be joking

We have already moved on from the Tempest. We got the Tempest replacement from a country that's not from the EU, US and Russia. Its engine is in front and it comes with a 120mm main gun with target tracking. There's not many MBT with front engine, so make your guesses.

There's another 2 variant of the Bionix, 1 would be the AMX replacement, and the other is a twin barrel mortar version. Oh yah, and a bridging element as well.

Then you should have a M16 mount on the bike's handle bar..... and might as well put a aerodynamic kevlar shield at the front of the mountain bike plus self inflating tires...;)

Btw is the bionix amphibious??? Think I saw its prototype as early as 1991. Looks much smaller and tested by guys in dark blue overalls...
Just curious coz the M113 is able to add floatation kits.
:)[/QUOTE]

Actually doin floatation exercise for the bionix is quite scary, the water goes all the way to the driver's capola. Anyone know's if it can be deploy direct from our LST for beach landings?

If its what I think it is then its surprising.... considering the other implications.... but then again... in the past there were similar deals.... Its quite a large MBT... wonder what's the rationale? Is that where we got the removable armour plates idea for the bionix from?

Ok... you mean it doesn't float but submerge till the capola? Or float with only the capola above the waterline.... sounds quite scary... any wave would envelope it....

it should float, otherwise it wouldn't be called floatation. anyway the M113 is no better, water comes within 2 inches of the deck. these guys are not made for floatation in the sea, only for rivers and lakes where there are no waves.

actually there is a special extra floatation kit for the M113 which raises the vehicle higher off the water so that it can be used in the sea (or rather near the beach).

The Merkava MK4?

ah but which model?

I can't remember which model cos if I am not wrong there are MK 1,II, III and IV.

But one thing for sure, it is as heavy as M1, Challenger, Lepoard 2.

I just recall there is another tank with front engine, it from Sweden or Switzerland (can't remember which country use it  )

ah, the Merkava.....

next to WWII hardware, and the M1 Abrams, the Merkava's the only other tank that i think kicks ass.

They took it out in built-up area. I recalled some video (in PhoenixTV) about PLO explaining how they build the explosive device to destroy the tank.

They built a 2-stage explosive device. It looked like a LGB (ie. a small head with a big body). The big body carried a big explosive charge to propell the smaller shaped explosive into the tank. The device is activated when the tank came cross to it (under 10m?).

Of cause, their successful attempt shocked the Israelis.

In the 2nd Gulf War, there were limited sucesses of destruction of MBT in close range (like a M1 being blowed up near Baghad -- and the blast area is more than 10m in diameter).

PS: Information recalled from news clips / documentaries.
