Memories of New Zealand ( South Island )

#31 is magical. You sure got a special moment there. Well done.

Have been following this thread for some time now. It just seems to get better and better. Great stuff, bro

hi asterixsg. thanks for the kind words. I loved #31 as well.
unfortunately those moments do not come by frequently, i'd probably portrayed south island much better if i stayed there for a mth or two, waiting for those moments to come by.

here is Thundering Creek Falls, a short walkable distance from the Haast drive.

You can probably cross the shallow stream which runs from right to left ( if it is shallow ) to take a closer shot of the waterfall as well - if time and company permits :bsmilie: beware of sandflies ..

A shot of a sunrise one morning at the beach in Kaikoura ( pronounced Kai-Kou-da ). there are lots of old houses and huts, fishing port in Kaikoura. unfortunately it was abit too rushed when we were there, didn have much time to explore the place.

Kaikoura Whale Watch is at the beach, with a long stretch of car park space.
Lots of campervans ard the place, must be a pretty lovely place to anchor. ( though i am not sure if it is allowed, i heard most of the time freedom camping is frowned upon esp in towns unless the area is designated otherwise )

Unfortunately did not catch a better "pose" of him holding his morning puff, had to rush for the long queue at the Whale Watch centre that morning

The countryside from above, looking down at Akaroa. Akaroa is a small cosy french like town with an interesting history, interesting road names and really great food. U will see a few french flags as well. Take the longer scenic road drive and u will be rewarded with a slightly ardous but scenic view of akaroa. ( Akaroa is a short 1hr+ drive from Christchurch )

btw my first tilt shift pano post for this thread ;p

This one is great! I reckon that it's your very unique style  However, I find the colour a bit dull, much different from what I had experienced when I was there in 2004. Could it be the weather?

Hope to see more of NZ through your tilt-shift lens :)

Thanks orangedial. the weather was pretty cloudy when we reached (see the back of the skies), was raining from the start of our journey at christchurch. luckily it started to clear out after our brunch at Billy Hayes (highly recommend their blueberry hotcakes) While i did not desaturate the colors intentionally, there was no saturation either. Held back the urge to correct the slight off color to harmonise with the weather. or maybe it is more of an emotional matter of the feel i experienced.

As for tilt/shift stuffs, it is a very personal whimsy of mine hah. While I did capture a fair number of them alongside the "normal" shots, but as it can be a pretty love-hate quirk for the masses, i'd figure i be abit more sparing in posting them this time round. The rest goes to my privy coffeetable book collection.

Here is better weather in akaroa, taken while strolling down the beach, chanced upon a couple who was feeding some pretty noisy birds with crackers.
Took this quick snap before it went out of my frame ( it was pretty close to me actually )
May the better bird win.

#35 that trademark TS shot. But is it pano crop or pano stitch? I reckon its a pano stitch as i suppose this scene is too wide for 35mm equivalent. Must be hard to achieve this shot

#30 is really beautiful...

#36, beautiful timing. if only the woman's face is not covered, or not there at all, would've been perfect!

thanks KT :)

The pano was stitched with 3 shots, with an adapted mamiya t/s 35mm lens on my canon body. but with a 17mm for full frame u could get something as wide or wider than this.

Ya man. i also agree. but that was my unfortunate only take. but no worries my friend.. the lady will appear again in the subsequent installment, "never overfeed wild animals" :bsmilie:

A frosty pre-sunrise shot on a drive in Fox Glacier. A quick snap from the window. The forest area is pretty shrouded by morning fog. i would think a panoramic longer exposure can give a pretty silky composition

A panorama atop fox glacier, with victoria falls. this was the only time my tripod came in handy, otherwise it was a dreadful deadweight carrying it.

A panoramic stitch of 3 shots taken in the waters of Matheson before sunrise, at the "View of Views" area, but definitely not at the usual platform above, cause too much dangling branches from the top. A short walk from the upper viewing platform will bring u to the side of the lake. It seemed there was already a small bashed path down the waters. I walked knee deep enough to clear the front of those tall grasses before nabbing the shot. With swimming trunks and a taller tripod u might just be able to go past those weeds in the foreground :bsmilie: ( but of couse cannot tell how deep the water, also might kenna hypothermia )

Milford Sound. A really quick snap as we were walking back to the carpark on foot after our Milford Boat Cruise. Mitre Peak at the background

Simply adore the stillness in #39.

You went into water with your tripod ?

#40 is nice too, even though it might've been a snapshot.
Nicely framed by the branches on top with a leading line to the peak.

Want to drop everything and get on to the next flight to NZ. Well done. When I see your photos, I almost feel like I am there. This is the feeling I look for when I shoot.

This is very nicely done Ryan... What time is it taken?:)

#39 just shows how much sacrifice one has to make to get the shot. Never mind the undergrowth on the left, the mood and beauty of the scene makes up for everything. Great shot!
