Memories of New Zealand ( South Island )

So many wonderful shots, these two are quite magical. Just a guide, you mentioned 1 min exposure for the 1st one, how high of an ISO did you use?

Thanks ahbian for ur kind words. I took that 12mm shot at ISO of 5000 at exposure of 70 seconds. I did try to take it at lower ISO settings but at a longer exposure of 1min 30 sec, on closer inspection i will start to see the stars slightly oblongish from rotation, though at forum posting sizes it will not be apparent ( thats probably me nit picking .. ).

Here is a shot from air from my second heli ride in the later afternoon ( a Heli Hike at Fox glacier, check out Heli Hike : http://www.foxguides.co.nz/ the whole package was about 3+ hrs for us )

This is a top down view of Victoria falls at Fox Glacier, a lovely waterfall that the heli-hike guides will usually bring heli-hike tourists to walk a little closer weather and glacier permitting ( we did not get too closed though, and it was really on the verge of raining for our trip but thankfully not canceled - this should have been a more sunny shot on usual days ) Mountains on the left, glacier grounds on the right. Part of the "dirtiness" rather than the clean bluish glacier coloration due to the coating soot that flew from an Aussie forest fire a while back.

Thanks yun10! actually the guy was sitting 2 tables away from us and was pretty obvious if i shot directly at him, so i thought of catching reflection of him instead. if there were cars zipping past outside it might have been more interesting take.

Here is a shot taken from one of the glacial caves we tunnelled around with our guide. Bringing a belt lens carrying system was a mistake because it added girth to my waist and some of the entrances were really narrow and added to my movement misery. In retrospect a nice wide zoom would do just fine. The tripod added further inconvenience ..

Our group was one of the smaller groups of only 5. Our guide was an avid chirpy guy from nepal. Here is one of the candid shot of an american couple in our hike.

Here is a shot of Victoria falls taken during our Heli Hike at Fox Glacier - waiting for our guide who walked down to scout a safer path to go nearer Victoria falls (in the end there wasn't ) . Beautiful place. It was pretty much cloud cover over the entire glacier that day. And a fine drizzle.

Milford Sound, Sterling Falls.
A shot taken from our small cruise boat nearer the falls. Sterling falls is the other permanent falls of Milford Sound area (The other permanent waterfall being the famous Bowen falls ). It was rainy ( as usual ) and cloudy on the day of our cruise, and we noticed more and more impromtu waterfalls appearing. We hoped onto the earliest boat in the morning, and booked the tickets the day before from Milford Sound Lodge, with a bit of discount. Unfortunately the underwater observatory was closed on the day of the cruise. Meanwhile enjoy the cruise!

* note that the last cruise is ard 5+pm, so give lots of time for the Milford Road drive.

The wind helped dispersed the water, creating the mix and match of haziness and the frozen water splashes from the faster shutter speed.

One of the tourist on the Milford Cruise boat taking a snap of the waterfalls. The other guy at the background is probably shooting with a camera, but looks as if he is shooting himself :bsmilie:

A shot of Cleddau river at the back of Milford Sound Lodge in the morning, with one of the Roverside chalets on the left. The Riverside chalets of the Milford Sound Lodge will command the most beautiful view from the room. We did not manage to book them, and we gotten the Backpacker style Twin Room for NZ 80 per night. Simple and clean, one power plug and one heater :bsmilie:

This was the day we drove and drove and drove ..
Haast to Fox Glacier. It was an hr to sunset, and the forest walks became a little dimmer. We set out to visit the various waterfalls in the vicinity of the Haast drive. I wanted to shoot the Roaring Billy waterfalls, but its meandering around the trees was not to my taste, and my wifey pointed out the rays of sun southwards the beach, which she thought was a better capture. In this instance, this picture belong to us - she thinks, i execute!

yes all pre-booked. some of the places we stayed in were pretty popular. and because we were not sure of driving conditions, was once we checked in only at 9+pm. luckily we prebooked because the town was almost pitch black.

Print and frame worthy pics all around! Lovely series!

Thanks Headshotzx! i am planning to print some of them :)

Part of the Blue Lake at Haast, which wasn't too blue.
