Exclusive: Man United Prepare £55m Bid to Re-Sign Cristiano Ronaldo as Old Trafford Side Look to Complete Transfer Coup

Man United are said to be readying a move for former star Cristiano Ronaldo next summer with the Old Trafford side confident of luring the Portuguese international back to the club he left in 2009.

CaughtOffside understands that super agent Jorge Mendes is ready to enter into talks with Man United as his client considers leaving Real Madrid with the La Liga side having started to usher in a new era of ‘Galaticos’.

The arrivals of Gareth Bale, Isco, Asier Illarramendi, James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos over recent transfer windows have seen Real Madrid making plans for the long term and Ronaldo may feel that the time is right to consider a return to Man United.

Whilst Cristiano Ronaldo’s individual form over the course of his five years in the Spanish capital has been nothing short of outstanding Real Madrid have fairly little to show for that period with the Bernabeu side have won just one La Liga title in the five seasons the attacker has been at the club.

Last term’s Champions League success will have sated Ronaldo’s desire to lif the trophy with Real Madrid and there are reports suggesting that the player is open to a move back to Man United and his agent has helped two of his other clients move to the club this summer, Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao.

Man United Latest: Louis van Gaal looks to take spending past £200m in January transfer window

Though Ronaldo will have turned 30 by the time the transfer window opens next summer Man United are willing to offer as much as €70m (£55m) and could also allow loaned out striker Javier Hernandez to move to Real Madrid on a permanent basis as part of a part-exchange deal that may just tempt president Florentino Perez to sell.

Man United’s owners are confident that the financial benefits of welcoming back Ronaldo to the club more than outweigh the fairly hefty bid for a player who will be entering the latter stages of his glittering career.

Indeed Man United had considered making a move for Ronaldo this summer but the club’s lack of a Champions League berth made such a move next to impossible.

Man United have spent upwards of £150m to bring in players Louis van Gaal has earmarked as necessary to secure a top four finish, at the very least, and qualification for the Champions League be achieved then chief executive Ed Woodward will hope to seal a deal to re-sign Ronaldo, a move that would represent a major statement of intent.

Ronaldo has racked a stunning 255 goals in 250 appearances for Real Madrid since his £80m move to the club back in July 2009.

A move for Ronaldo would bring an end to the possibility of making the Radamel Falcao’s loan move a permanent one with Man United preferring to open talks to re-sign the Real Madrid star to the outlay necessary to sign the AS Monaco forward on an outright basis.

Manchester United vow to buy 'a Luis Suarez a year' under new aggressive transfer policy

Old Trafford's £150m summer spree just the start as new commercial deals give them power to compete despite Champions League exile

There is a phrase that has been used to describe Manchester United’s apparent financial muscle in the world transfer market that has appealed to the club’s hierarchy. When United signed their hugely lucrative new kit deal with Adidas in July it was said to have given them the potential to sign “a Suárez every year”.
United will not be signing Barcelona’s former Liverpool striker of course – although stranger things have happened – but given it took £75 million to take the Uruguayan to the Catalan club, £15 million more than United paid to acquire Ángel di María from Real Madrid in a British record deal, then the inference is clear.
United believe they can make a world-class marquee signing every year for the next decade. And if not Suárez next summer then what are the chances of a move to bring back, for example, Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford? He will, as things stand, have just one more year left on his Real Madrid contract by then.
The Adidas deal to supply their kit from next season is worth £750 million – although that would be reduced should the club fail to qualify for the Champions League for two successive seasons. Nevertheless, it represents a significant markup from the Nike deal it replaces. And other deals are in the pipeline.
It was Kevin Roberts, founder of SportsBusiness International, a specialist magazine, who used the Suárez phrase as he was asked on Sky News about his thoughts on the Adidas deal and United are remarkably bullish about their spending.

Senior sources have already briefed that more money will be committed when the January transfer window opens, with talks understood to have taken place to bring in the Roma and Holland midfielder Kevin Strootman for around £25  million during that time once he has recovered from a cruciate ligament injury.
United understand that more than £150 million spent this summer – by far the biggest outlay in the club’s history – is a massive financial commitment.
However, they insist it is not just something they can afford but something they can afford comfortably, especially as they argue they have reduced the size of their squad at the same time. That overhaul will also continue with high-earners such as Ashley Young, said to be on £115,000 a week, targeted.

United also claim that although they want to be in the Champions League next season they can financially take the hit of not being in the competition – for one more year presumably – even though an improved deal kicks in with the new campaign.
They had promised they could spend up to £200 million this summer, and came close to doing that. Maybe it was not as planned as they had promised – and the argument that Louis van Gaal, the manager, wanted time to assess his squad does not ring true – but it was bold. As is the claim that there is more to follow.

Just hope we are not the next RM

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal to continue spending in January with Kevin Strootman and Marco Reus his targets

Fresh from a world-record £150 million splurge, the Manchester United manager is eyeing moves for Kevin Strootman, Mats Hummels and Marco Reus

Louis van Gaal has been told by the Manchester United board that he can continue to invest in his squad when the transfer window reopens in January.
The Old Trafford club splurged £150 million on new signings over the summer – a world record – but despite the lavish spending the Dutchman has been backed to buy more players in the New Year.
Van Gaal has identified Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman as his priority January target, on the basis of the Holland international proving his full fitness when he returns from cruciate ligament surgery in November.
The 24-year-old is valued at around £30 million, though the Serie A club's coach, Rudi Garcia, has suggested that it would take €100 m (£79m) to prise the midfielder away from the Italian capital.
Elsewhere, renewed efforts to bolster defensive options are also anticipated. United were frustrated in their attempts to persuade Dortmund to sell Germany centre-half Mats Hummels during the summer and, with the 25-year-old under contract at Signal Iduna Park until July 2017, fear renewed moves to sign the player will meet with similar resistance.

With United one of several clubs interested in signing Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus, whose contract contains a £19.8-million release clause from the summer of 2015, senior figures at Old Trafford understand that the German club will not consider the sale of Hummels until 2016 at the earliest.
Despite the difficulties in securing proven reinforcements at the back, Van Gaal has made it clear to the United hierarchy that he is determined to promote youth in all areas of the squad.
Tyler Blackett, a 20-year-old Manchester-born defender, has been promoted to the first team this season and Van Gaal sanctioned the deadline-day departures of Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez after being impressed by the potential of 18-year-old forward James Wilson, who scored twice on his senior debut against Hull City last season.

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson: I'm relieved to be out of the transfer rat race

Sir Alex Ferguson says he is 'fortunate' not to be involved at the forefront of the game after witnessing Manchester United's record outlay in the transfer window...

Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he was glad he was no longer in charge of Manchester United after witnessing the amount of money they and others splurged in the transfer market this summer.
Speaking publicly for the first time since United spent a record £150million signing players such as Radamel Falcao and Ángel di María, the club's former manager also warned there may be no end in sight to the inflation of transfer fees.
“My opinion is that it’s never going to change, the world is progressing, and transfer fees with it, and I don’t know if there’ll be an end to it,” Ferguson said after chairing two days of closed-door talks at Uefa’s annual Elite Club Coaches Forum. “Fortunately, I’m not at the hub of it nowadays. Certainly it’s amazing, the amount of money spent nowadays.”
Ferguson, who retired in May last year after 26 years as United’s manager, was renowned for developing young players and keeping their transfer spending in check.
But the club’s dramatic fall from grace since he moved behind the scenes at Old Trafford prompted an unprecedented spree this summer under new manager Louis van Gaal.

United smashed the British transfer record last week by paying Real Madrid £59.7m for Di María before making a sensational swoop on deadline day to sign Colombia striker Falcao on loan.
According to Swiss-based analysts the CIES Football Observatory, the Di María deal typified the breakneck inflation in the transfer market, which far outstrips price rises in the overall economy.
CIES claimed United overpaid by £24m to sign the Argentina star, and added that teams from Europe’s big five leagues paid an average of 16 per cent more than they invested in the five previous years for players with similar characteristics.

SAF on United splurges

Needless to say....last time MU mid field Keane, schoolers basically camp at opponent side...when York, cole, Ronaldo, RVN etc get the ball....something is going to happen.... But nowadays .....haiz....with people like Carrick....fletcher in midfield.....I can only imagine ball being pass back ward....and the back four very stress and always have to scramble to clear the ball...

Yeah ... previously they are always pushing forward ... haiss... hope the new team will have more attacking flow...

so many new players... they will also need time to gel. i am really worried this may back fire.

Yeah ... previously they are always pushing forward ... haiss... hope the new team will have more attacking flow...

provided the defence can pass to midfield... midfield distributed it well. otherwise if defense shaky they'll just clear the ball. even Blackburn Rovers does that

Juventus eyeing January move for Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata

Mata arrived at Old Trafford amid a wave of excitement in January but has been superseded by deals for Falcao and Angel Di Maria this summer.

Italian champions Juventus are lining up a January move for Juan Mata.

Juve will see whether the Manchester United playmaker is surplus to requirements after Louis Van Gaal's summer spending spree.

They will then try and swoop for Mata who only joined United a year ago for £35million from Chelsea.

But now Mata finds himself facing a major battle to hold down a place after United signed Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao this summer.

United already have a wealth of attacking options with Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney and it may be tricky for Mata to get into Van Gaal's starting XI.

Juventus will watch developments closely and then move for Mata if they progress into the knock out stages of the Champions League and have money to spend.

Juventus will also look at loaning other players in January with Antonio Valencia and Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic also on their list.

Mata stay or go

so many new players... they will also need time to gel. i am really worried this may back fire.

Yup ... this is also another major issue how far we will go this season will depend on how fast they gel...

provided the defence can pass to midfield... midfield distributed it well. otherwise if defense shaky they'll just clear the ball. even Blackburn Rovers does that

Maybe should just set a rule do not allow to back pass ...

U mean like basketball? They should also stop the clock when the ball out of play......set 60 seconds limit for a team's possesion until it shot on target to prevent time wasting :)

Oh well ... nowadays isn't the $$$ that are buying hearts... lol ... i know still got play for passion la ... but whats the percentage esp in BPL? La Liga n the major leagues...

Rickie Lambert. Fought his way up from the lower leagues after being told at 15 he's not good enough for LFC Academy...look where he is now... LOL

England win, but Jones off injured

Manchester United duo Wayne Rooney and Phil Jones helped England get off to a winning start in the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign thanks to hard-fought 2-0 victory over Switzerland, but it came at a cost for Jones who went off injured.
Former Red Danny Welbeck got both goals with Rooney, who was substituted in the 90th minute, playing a part in the build-up to the first on 58 minutes. Welbeck calmly converted a second in stoppage time.

In a lively first half in Basel, both sides had decent chances. Rooney failed to connect properly with a couple of early opportunities, while Jones was relieved to see Joe Hart save well from Haris Seferovic after the United defender had lost possession. Rooney then saw a curling effort palmed away just before the break and from the resulting Rooney corner, Jones had a header brilliantly saved by Yann Sommer in the Swiss goal.

There were more openings at both ends at the start of the second period, before England took the lead just before the hour-mark through Welbeck. Rooney collected possession in midfield and set Raheem Sterling free down the left and he crossed for Welbeck to shin the ball home from close range.

Roy Hodgson’s men then breathed a sigh of relief when Gary Cahill cleared off the line after Swiss sub Josip Drmic got in behind Hart.

Worryingly for United, Jones limped off with what looked like a hamstring pull 13 minutes from time, but it had no impact on the overall result as England held out for the win which was confirmed in injury time with Welbeck's cool finish. The Three Lions face a double header of qualifiers next month with a home game against San Marino (9 October) followed by a trip to Estonia (12 October).

Elsewhere in Euro 2016 qualifying, United goalkeeper David De Gea was an unused substitute in Spain’s 5-1 win over Macedonia, with Iker Casillas getting the nod between the posts. Vicente Del Bosque’s men were 3-1 up by half-time in Valencia thanks to goals from Sergio Ramos, Paco Alcacer and Sergio Busquets. David Silva and Pedro completed the rout after the break.

Thanks to the useless international we have addition to injury list
