Manchester United humbled after 3-2 loss in Japan

YOKOHAMA (AFP) - Manchester United lost 2-3 to Japan's Yokohama Marinos on Tuesday in their second loss in three friendly games under new manager David Moyes.

The English champions fell behind in the very first minute but they recovered to lead 2-1 heading into the second half thanks to Jesse Lindgard's strike and a Yokohama own goal.

However, Fabio Aguiar headed the scores level before Yoshihito Fujita's winner three minutes from time removed further gloss from United's pre-season Asia-Pacific tour.

United earlier lost 0-1 in Bangkok and won 5-1 in Melbourne.

Barca President claims Fabregas not for sale

Barcelona President Sandro Rosell has apparently written to Manchester United to warn off their pursuit for midfielder Cesc Fabregas after the club made a second bid for the Spanish international. David Moyes saw an initial £25m bid rejected last week but the club have come back with an improved offer of around £30m for Fabregas.

This prompted Rosell, in the middle of appointing a successor to Tito Vilanova who has stepped down due to ill health, to write to United stating that Fabregas was ‘not for sale’.

Fabregas only moved to the Nou Camp in 2011 for around £25m from Arsenal but has struggled to nail down a first team spot at the club. He has appeared 96 times for the Catalans but failed to nudge Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets from the starting XI.

United revealed last week, in the midst of the Wayne Rooney saga, that executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward had returned to England from the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East to conduct ‘urgent transfer business’ which presumably includes the Fabregas ordeal too. It is unknown whether a potential move for Fabregas will have any bearing on Rooney’s future at Old Trafford.

David Moyes seems intent on bringing one big marquee signing to Old Trafford this summer, perhaps to satisfy Rooney, as the club continue to be linked with Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. Defender Guillermo Varela has been the only addition to Moyes’ squad as the new boss saw a bid for Everton left-back Leighton Baines rejected in June.

It looks likely that more frustration will follow for the arguably under-pressure Moyes.

Rumours

I am wondering if this is just a smoke screen to hide Man U advances on CR7.... if Tottenham sell Real Bale.... CR7 will be available???

Or trying to push lower price for other players???

Since it is known Fab like to stay in Barca.....

This is what i thinking too ... those able to fit into Man Utd playing style doesn't seems to be interested in joining while those interested with due respect... sadly not so suitable ... not only midfield week but defend also need another 1 or 2 to boost the back line.

I would not mind Fellaini actually.... he will be a giant in midfield, and Man U need more presence and steel in the midfield if they encounter the Germans...

Remember when Arsenal was invincible... they have big midfielder.... I feel Carrick is too.. soft... Kawaga, Cleverly, all pretty lightweight and shorter.....

Defense I thought is not that bad yet...... but the way the defense leaking goals in a worry even though they are friendly... I think the logical explanation is they playing a new system and they have not gotten used to it........

Lindgard scored thrice so far but I have never seen him play... but the bio seems like he is another below 1.8m player..... so I think this could be his season....

Meanwhile... I am a bit concern that Man U is leaking so many goals..... and this is though... a youth team in the first half.... hope they work out their defense out soon... I just feel Man U need more steel in midfield... wonder if Superman is available??? :bsmilie:

Reds relaunch Fabregas bid

David Moyes has revealed Manchester United have launched a second bid to sign Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona.

Speaking at a press conference in Yokohama, the boss shed some light on the proposed transfer and even hinted that other deals might be in the making, although he did ask for patience as executive vice chairman Ed Woodward continues negotiations on behalf of the club.

“My understanding is that Ed's had a response and he's spoken with them [Barcelona],” Moyes explained on Monday. “I think we made a second offer but Ed is dealing with that rather than me, personally.”

Expanding on the process behind signing top-bracket players, the manager said: “When you're interested in good players you want to give it every opportunity to materialise and I'll do that. I hope things can continue and move forward.”

As the summer transfer window closes on Monday 2 September, clubs have just over a month to conclude any business. And although that date is slowly edging closer, Moyes is urging supporters to remain calm.

“There isn't any real update I can give you, though. I think everybody had thought this could be the summer where transfers would happen later in the month.

"You have to remember I only started the job on 1 July. So, in truth, I've only been in the job for three weeks at this present time.”

Hope we can seal the deal soon! Hmm... this season transfer deadline seems to have extended?

Because 31 Aug falls on a weekend that is why it has been extended to 2 Sep.

Dun understand y players want to stay in Barca or Real when they are not having regular games ... it is rather unhealthy for their growth in the game! or they just happy to stay... as long as they are with Top Teams ... unlike Man Utd will release players to other teams so they can have regular playing then stay here till dunk when then can play ...

Think we should go for Bale ... but then ...

Hmm... Germans will be a better choice if we are talking about big tall and tough ... ya the backline is always leaky ... under SAF is Attack and to out score our denfense not sure Moyes will carry on what SAF is doing if not ideally get another one or two to plug the loop holes!

Boss provides injury update

David Moyes has provided an injury update from Japan following the 3-2 defeat to Yokohama F·Marinos in the latest match of the 2013 Tour presented by Aon.

Robin van Persie was substituted as a precaution after being chosen to lead the line while Danny Welbeck also pulled up sharply after challenging for one through ball but soldiered on. Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand and Michael Carrick were left on the sidelines for the entertaining clash.

"We've got a couple of wee worries," explained Moyes to MUTV. "Robin just felt his thigh in the first half and we didn't want to take any chances.

"Danny Welbeck felt his groin when he came on and we've just got to make sure they're all okay especially with so many games coming up. We've still got a few games to play before the season starts when we get back home."

Chris Smalling and Ashley Young enjoyed run-outs as they step up their bid for full fitness while Wayne Rooney remains on course to feature later in the pre-season campaign.

"With Rio, we just decided to give him a rest. I wanted to get Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling a game so we rested Rio. Michael just felt his groin. It's a bit tight from last night. It's not anything we can see keeping him out. He just missed training and the game tonight.

"As far as we know Wayne [Rooney] is coming on, He's started light jogging and the feedback I'm getting from the physios is that he's progressing. Hopefully those dates are still on track."

Moyes undecided on first XI

David Moyes insists he is yet to formulate a starting XI for Manchester United’s opening match of the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season against Swansea City.

The match, to be held at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday 17 August, will be the manager’s first top-flight outing in charge of the Reds following the retirement of his predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson, adding to the intrigue of what is already a traditionally exciting fixture.

However, despite working closely with his recently acquired squad of champions during this summer’s Tour 2013 presented by Aon, Moyes is yet to decide on a favoured team and would like to evaluate his players further before the big kick off.

“I'm still getting to know my players,” David explains. “I have several players back home who I've not met yet because of international duties. I don't have a starting XI for the Swansea game formulated in my head yet. We still have three games in Europe before the season starts. We'll look at it then.”

The first of those three remaining matches is Monday’s clash with Kitchee FC in Hong Kong, where heavy rain has made for difficult playing conditions in recent weeks. And although the boss is concerned, he remains hopeful of improvements.

“I do have concerns about the surface but it's mainly due to the weather and that's an act of God, so we can't do anything about that. We'll travel to Hong Kong tomorrow and hopefully find the conditions improved and the pitch in a better state than it's been in recently.”

Aiya still early to decide la...

Finally we got news from the player himself!

Cesc Fabregas says yes to Manchester United move

CESC FABREGAS has agreed to join Manchester United following a secret meeting between the Barcelona star's agent Darren Dein and Old Trafford chief executive Ed Woodward.

Sunday Express Sport, which broke the news of United's big move for the former Arsenal star on May 26, can reveal that Woodward came home early from his club's extensive Far East tour to try and facilitate the incoming Old Trafford record deal. That, we can disclose, included a meeting with the respected Dein, who also helped swing United's £24million capture of Robin van Persie last summer.

Dein told Woodward that Fabregas wants to return to the Premier League and that United and not former club Arsenal, who have first option on the Spanish midfielder, is his preferred destination.

United have made three bids for the 26-year-old, the latest more than £30m and one which they were confident Barcelona would accept.

But the departure of cancer stricken manager Tito Vilanova, who has been replaced by Gerardo Martino, has given United a big problem. Martino doesn't want as one of his first acts to sanction the departure of a popular player.

This has left United frustrated in the knowledge that their prime transfer target wants to join them and is happy with the personal terms on offer.

Now they believe it will be up to Fabregas to make his feelings known to the new Nou Camp manager and could even mean the former Gunner submitting a transfer request.

United boss David Moyes is prepared to wait for the man who he believes would strengthen his side's defence of the Premier League title and would also enhance their Champions League ambitions.

Only if Barcelona categorically insist that Fabregas will not be allowed to leave during this transfer window will Moyes move on to other midfield transfer targets which include his former club Everton's Marouane Fellaini and Newcastle's Yohan Cabaye.

United are also monitoring the situation involving Spurs ace Gareth Bale, who Real Madrid are claiming is the subject of an £80m bid.

United would rival the Spanish side if Spurs decide to cash in on the Welsh international - something chairman Daniel Levy insists won't happen this summer.

But Fabregas remains the prime transfer objective for Moyes especially after knowing the outcome of the meeting between the player's representative and United's main transfer negotiator.

Moyes: This is for Sir Alex

David Moyes has dedicated Sunday’s FA Community Shield triumph over Wigan Athletic to Sir Alex Ferguson, his managerial processor at Manchester United.

Report

Congratulations to the Team for securing the first Trophy under Moyes. Concerning Rooney's issue, MU high level decision has confirmed he will not be sold at any price. Hope Moyes can talk and assure him on his valuable contribution and importance in the first Team. And he will be given enough play time (if fully fit) because its a World Cup season come 2014, Rooney is justifiable to be concerned on his involvement and keeping fit for England commitment. Its going to be big opening games for most EPL clubs this weekend. We shall have a flying start by squashing Swasea with a comfortable high scoring win. MU MU MU ALL THE WAY!!!

Wonder if it is a test or Moyes just unlucky.... First few games, he is already facing tough opponents. After the Swansea games, they face Chelsea, then Liverpool, Crystal Palace, and then Man City... All within a month of the start of the season. He has to do well, otherwise the media will not be kind.

Tough opponents - Doubtful! You may never know. Good on paper, does not mean good as a team. Lets face them with gusto!! Come what may, better early than late, we are ready for anyone who dare to step into MU domain. We will surely give them a taste of what we can do. Standby Moyes Standby MU.
