Not true, I connect my Mac Pro to Samsung monitor, Canon printer, Iomega external drive, no-brand multi-memory card reader, DLink modem/router and dunno-what-brand external HDD drive, no-brand USB hub.

Yah, i agree! Have been using mac for about 7 years now, i've hooked up my mac to many other hardwares. non is a apple actually. monitor, printer, ext hdd, card reader, router, scanner etc etc.

Can you hook your latest iMac or MB/MBP to a 3rd party monitor without purchasing a MiniDisplay port / Displayport adapter? Each of these adapters cost $44, mind you.

hmm. ok, missed those days when the adapter comes with the box though. but, as long its usb/firewire shouldn't be a problem?

Actually Mac is cheaper. Take a look at the iMac 27". It is using a IPS panel monitor with a CPU box, keyboard and mouse. IPS is one of the best available and the price is incredibly low in iMac yet you get the best. Are you able to get an IPS monitor 27" with a DIY CPU box with same specifications at this iMac's price?

With the cost of a new Mac, that very same amount I can assemble a QuadCore i7 with a decent GPU plus a 26" samsung monitor. Can the 27" iMac be use to play the latest high end game? :bsmilie:

Use linux then
seldom crash

mac = overpriced apple care ($600+) + patch fee (10.5.4->10.5.5) + overpriced parts?
pc = best parts @ cheap cost + buggy windows + cheap extended warranty

Wow! $600++ for extended warranty??? :o

but well, those mac fan boys seem happy paying Apple tax. :bsmilie:

Basically, Apple Mac is about overpriced hardware with weaker specs but nicely polished for display showcases. :bsmilie:

When Macs first come out, they are pretty competitive in specs and price but they have a longer cycle versus the other vendors, hence they will be "lower" spec'd versus the competition say in 6 months.

Juz read the specs for mac mini, its packaged with a mini DVI to DVI adaptor, but no KB & mouse. If u buy original mac KB & mouse its a hell of a lot of money, so juz buy "3rd party ones" like microsoft or logitech brand.

Cost aside, i really like how apple sell their macs. U dun juz buy a computer & fig out the rest urself, the website is full of basics & beginners' advice to help users new or old. Also the software package is attractive, u get the OS which is fully useable w/o much apps for basic things like iphoto, movies, disc burning app, xcode for programming, etc. IT guys can use the unix kernel to link things around. Think not bad.

My XP is already 3yrs old & i'm now contemplating to go win7 or Snow leopard with my next change. Hmm... My biggest concern wud be online transactions, some use active X for certain features, so compatibility wise, i'm not so sure.

Is this without purchasing an adapter? If my peripherals have USB connectors - no big deal. Thank goodness Apple did not decide to create their own USB connection!

However went to a client site with my MacBook and couldn't connect to their projector. I forgot that the "normal" male connectors do not connect to the mac &*^*&%$ At that moment Macs sucked!

BTW - other than the adapter glitch - am pretty happy with the Mac!

macs just work right? ;)

I do like it. However if you were asking me to compare it to a Windows machine - difficult to say as I have managed to crash the Mac as many times as I have crashed my windows machine.

I have received several viruses thru email and have archived them as I like to have a look at them!!!

I have turned off services on my windows machine and protected my root directories and not had a problem with viruses (a concerned friend decided my machine had to be scanned with Nortons to find nothing except for the directory of archived viruses).

Woah... i used Mac for many years. Opened Freehand, Photoshop, illustrator all together...
also won't lag or crash... How you make your Mac crash?...

- It decided to be weird with me when had plugged in a vid cam into it. It complained big time and shut itself down well I can only call it a Mac crash. Battery levels were fine. After some time of "play" and more Mac Crashes - resolved the issue. Sorry can't remember what the setting was that had to change on the vid cam.

- This year, it froze when running a VMWare session (it had happily run other VMWare sessions). It refused to respond to any of my tender touches. I waited patiently, it flatly refused to let any other apps take over. After 20 mins of waiting - forced it to shut down and almost ripped the battery out cos it took so long, changed settings, it froze again, shut down, changed settings, another freeze out, shut down, and finally gave in to its demands of more gigs of RAM. Now no probs with 4GBs.

- So far my Windows laptop has only crashed when I booted up with an external hard disk left in the USB. It works with 1GB and run Windows Server 2003, SQL Server 2000 and sometimes play with .Net. It is so far no probs other than being a DELL with crappy cables that have had to replace a couple of times.

So we can conclude that..... Mac beats PC flat there's no doubt about it. Their marketing just owns PC.:bsmilie:

Shrug. One man's meat can be another's poison. At end of day, you, the user goto decide what's important for you and with or without some inconvenience(s) will make the overall experience better? Each their own.

Hi, What about Acr F1 or Sony vaioCW. Acer F1 is about $1300+ and sony about $$2100+

Read this before you decide on a PC :bsmilie:

A Microsoft security report released on Monday warns that cyber crooks are digging into computers for weak spots to penetrate with worms - malicious software that steals control or data.

Rogue security software remained the top hacker threat to computers during the first half of this year, but the number of infections was dropping while penetrations by worms doubled, according to the Security Intelligence Report.

point is, i won't play games on a mac. :D

i've been a PC user since the day i had my 1st computer until a couple months ago i bought the macbook alum unibody.

OS X is a lot smoother and faster at launching apps. it definitely crashes a lot lesser than PC.

what you guys do to kill OS X i have no idea - i can't see OS X crashing an equiv amount to win xp, win vista.

There should be a distinction in what is crashing. XP, Vista and OSX are pretty stable OS's now and it's pretty hard to crash the actual OS these days. Occasionally, OSX won't recover and I'm forced to power of the machine as it's in a dead lock or runaway process, which can also happen in XP/Vista.

Apps still crash on OSX and window alike.
