m43 sunrise shoot gathering Sat 4th Aug

wah lao uncle James, when I realize one meaning, I found it rather disturbing hahaha, great moment though!

Saw you guys have pretty nice tripod. what kind of tripod you guys are using? care to recommend the brand and the price too for the OMD? tks. :)

I use Sirui T-025 Carbon Fibre, built for mirrorless camera, small light and short when folded but extended pretty tall. $215 was last best price i heard from Orient Photo few weeks back, TK Foto sells as well. Highly recommended to change the quick release plate to TY-50 ard $20, the experience will improve a lot more:) There's an aluminium version as well, cheaper slightly heavier

Photo #2 pop out already:)

Testing 12-35mm indoor after the kopi meeting

Hmm, seems like some CA in this shot.

Wow! f22! Looks good. I thought µ43 would hit diffraction limit at around f11?

Olympus OM-D w/ Panasonic 7-14mm at 14mm, f/22, 40sec, ISO 200. (no PP, just some cropping)

Thanks for the recommendation. Will take into consideration. Will look at others too. I still new to photography. Will need to learn more .

What's "diffraction limit" in English? ;)

Sorry, pure noob here. All I knew how to do was try out different f/stops, and this picture turned out to be the nicest I had.
At f/11, the lighting of the Arts-Science Museum was over-exposed.
I still have a LOT to learn. :)

Sorry for late posting, been busy with the video, G5 photo selection (not even halfway done yet hahaha) and National Day stuff at work, here's my rendition of sunrise pano, didn't shoot much as I was busy videoing away and as well as being half asleep ahahha

I absolutely love your colors and clarity for this. Could you share the settings and/or any special techniques you used to capture this?

Hmmm... nothing special actually, manual exposure get as much color as I can when shooting in RAW, then I played with the white balance in Lightroom, more blue, then add more magenta until I get it somewhat like that, then stitch in photoshop. Then it became distorted to look something like fisheye ( not 100% alike, but curved in that sense) then just corrected the distortion resulting in this. Sharpening helps too

Oh, I see. Thanks!
Very very nice.

Here's a good resource on the web : Cambridge in Colour - diffraction photography

This one talks about smaller formats vs larger formats at the bottom : www.mu-43.com - what does diffraction limited mean?

Lights around the museum are usually brighter than the surrounding. Stopping down a stop will prevent the highlights from clipping but the rest will be under exposed. If you were using aperture priority, then the camera would have compensated for the 1 stop difference with a longer shutter speed. You will get almost the same result regardless of aperture used. To overcome uneven lighting conditions, you need to find that timing when the ambient light is least contrasty, relative to the museum lighting. In this instance, that means waiting till later in the morning when there's a little more light in the sky and the surrounding buildings are better lit.

This is good advice. I'll make another trip later this month and try it out.
And this time round, I'll cater more time to visit the gardens too. Should be fun. :)

Thanks, Kit.

I enjoyed the session. And thank you, LP, for organising this. Got to know some new friends that day as well, and I particularly like the wide angle 7-14 mod with the Lee filters adapters. Excellent work there.

I really love the calmness of this particular sunrise during this meet, and the rain the day earlier really help clear up the skies. Even though I am still siting on the fence on my m43s purchase, and lucky me, I turn up!

Thanks for the compliment. Just so happens I like to do these kind of stuff. Got loads of tools at home. LOL...

Yes, it was a beautiful sunrise. Wish I had taken more shots with more variations. That kind of sky is hard to come by.

Oh, wait. What's that sound? Can u hear it? The E-M5 and 7-14 are calling you...

Thanks for letting me try your 16-35mm. I never expected to be trying Canon lenses at a m4/3rd meetup ;p
