The first time I have ever bought a camera from Panasonic. The LX3 is a really great little camera. Panasonic has a real winner with this product. Unfortunately, the let down seems to me to be more with the manufacturer's/local distributor's back up support. I'm going on a trip soon and I'd like a spare battery but cannot seem to find a retailer in Singapore that has an original battery for the LX3 to sell. The only alternative is to buy no-name batteries which fit the LX3 but I have read on this forum, appear to have significantly lower capacities than stated on the battery. Many other accessories for the LX3 still cannot be found at local stores. :thumbsd:

Panasonic has yet to include the RAW converter for the LX3 in Adobe Camera Raw updates or Apple Aperture Raw updates when cameras launched by other manufacturers at the same time or later than the LX3 have already done so eg. Nikon D90. Still have to rely on the rather clunky (my opinion only in case anyone finds this comment offensive) Silkypix which I may add (at the risk of offending yet more people - apologies in advance) appears to me have an interface that does'nt seem to follow the standard Windows conventions and appears be written for some other language (probably Japanese) then translated with all the typical "Engerish" typos.:thumbsd:

In summary - a great little camera - probably the best point n shoot camera in the market for the time being, marred only by poor manufacturer/distributor support. My two cents worth.

Well, Silkypix was developed by a Japanese company, Ishikawa Labs. The interface is really not that bad, doesn't take too long to get the hang of things, and produces good output.

Hmmm cannot get original batteries? From what I know quite a few places sell it.... Alan Photo is one. Price wise I wont comment but it is available contrary to your claim cannot find original battery in Singapore.

i bought a set of original batt for lx3 too...

I went around looking for a spare original battery around the time I bought the camera and no one I asked had them in stock. Compatible 3rd party batteries yes, original no. Same for all of the other accessories in their product brochure(which I had to download from their website because the shops didn't have it). Good to know I can get the original battery. Many thanks. There is an AP near my workplace. Will go and get one during lunch today. Hope they still have it in stock. With heavy use, the battery won't last a whole days use for me which is why I need a spare.

Yes, once you get over the rather strange interface, it does a decent job. But my normal workflow uses Adobe Bridge and PS. Will have to wait patiently until Panasonic decides to publish the LX3 raw converter in Adobe Camera Raw update. Hope they won't drag their feet for much longer.

Planning to get the LX3 for a upcoming trip. Is the battery supplied good enough for a 1 day shooting? Really don't wish to spend on another battery as this will be just another camera I will bring beside the DSLR.

Battery should be good for 200 - 300 shots.

This is one of the reason why I got LX3.;)

With it's slower response and limited batt life compared to DSLR, it really force me to think first then shoot. I have to think about everything even before I switch on the cam. (of course I lost quite a few candids... but that's the trade off)

The benefit of this is that my HDD is filling up at a snail's pace instead.

How much you got your original battery for?
If the compatible battery cost 50% less than the original battery, i don't mind getting it.;p

But it doesn't hold the charge very well. If you use the flash a couple of times, the bar will drop. The original won't.

Hi CYRN,
So this time round you did not bring your beloved Canon along?;)

every single shop that i asked in lucky plaza (around 3 shops at least), namely the one at the corner beside mc. These only come with the set + 4gb memory card only. No pouch i think. I was quite surprised at the price, but also noting that it doesnt come with free gifts..
