How do you find the difference between the LX1 and the F30?

LX1 gives me RAW and good user interface and mega OIS.

Have not really used the F30 much but it has very good noise control with high ISO.

anyone knows the latest price for LX1?

I bought the camera when it first came out because I wanted to have a fully manual camera with raw without lugging around my SLR.
Its been almost a year now, and I must say I used this camera the least of all the cameras I got, because of the very poor performance of this camera at low light, id say extremely poor.
Noise is one thing, but color blotches, that is just sad.
In fact I am about 15 minutes away from making a trip to the camera store to sell it and trade it for the S3IS, then I stumble upon this post.

So after looking at your pictures, you convinced me that maybe my photo skills is the factor to blame, so Ive decided to keep my LX1. Maybe someday I hope my LX1 can produce something similar to your photos.

If theres one thing I learn here which I didnt think I did much last time was to shoot in RAW mode.
So thats what I did, I shot more RAW recently and just used the generic Adobe Camera RAW plugin for photoshop at its default auto setting, surprisingly it did a very good job in removing most of the noise at ISO 80, 100, 200. ISO 400 is still pretty bad, but almost acceptable if you have to.

But this certainly makes for alot better images than shooting with JPEG and using Noise Ninja.

Nevertheless Im really glad I stumbled upon this thread, saves me 600 bucks from needlessly buying a canon. :)

good for U, pal. LX1 is a good m/c for the initiated.

...and LX2 is coming...some say even better than LX1, some say no improvements, some say 'really!', some say 'wait and see', and some say 'can't wait'!! :bsmilie:

Thanks for your comments... I finally got myself a black LX1... had a go with it near my office just now. The following are taken as JPEG out of the camera, resized in PS.

Colours and detail out of the camera is fantastic. There is some noise at ISO80 but they are very film like and actually adds richness to the images. I find it is best to put the lowest setting for sharpness, then the images will turn out less noisy and more natural. Now I need more work on my composition with the 16:9 format.

Who cares about the LX2 when this much cheaper LX1 is so good?

BTW, does getting a 150X SD card means that the LX1 can write RAW files in <1s?

I have a 133x card still writing in RAW takes about 2 seconds. As for the LX-2 it depends as equipment quest is fun for some photographers. If not all new models no need to sell liao..right?

wow, the pics by tao just convinced me to sell off me f30 for the lx2!!! oh, when is it going to end - this chase for the "best"... :kok:

ah, ur idea good, maybe we all can set up a 'national cs library' then we can all benefit from each other...

btw...the LX2 is now available in SG, our friend trucatus is now charging his black beauty

Called up AP today and was quoted LX2 at $655.. only black available. They also have LX1 on hand at $695. All prices before GST. Is the price fair? LX1 costs more?!?
Been following this thread and looking at some shot made with this cam... looks film like! Thinking of getting it!

I would also like to play with Canon S3 IS for a week. Mostly for the versatile swivel LCD screen. :sweatsm:

When will someone come up a camera with Panasonic colors, Fuji's low-light capability and Canon's swivel, live-LCD? Plus with optical viewfinder. Asking for too much right? :bsmilie:

Maybe can get those CSers who are renting out camera equipment to invest in some prosumers. :gbounce:

*Aiyoh! Wake up already!! Stop dreaming!! :kok: *

eh... optical viewfinder... you sure you wan it? it gonna be 10x smaller than the one on d50, since the sensor is that small...
anyway might as well say the most idiot one... 18-200 f1.8 VR/IS/OIS lens

Get the LX1, I was considering whether to wait but the painterly images by the VenusIII engine convince me to go for the LX1... again. My initial images with the LX1 were crap but as you get the hang of it, it will reward you with fantastic results. :)

Get the black one then. I actually had a used silver LX1 for a few days but sold it off and get a black one which I find have more sleek and less outstanding.

Here is a shaky casual shot today during lunchtime in front of Lau Pat Sat:

erm... using a silver compact cam looks outstanding? i tot alot of compact cam where silver... making it look more common/usual.

Aiyah, dreaming mah! Anything also can. How about 10-300mm f1.8 VR/IS/OIS lens :bsmilie:
:hammer: *wake up*wake up*

OK lah, optical viewfinder REALLY is asking for too much. How about just Panasonic colors, Fuji's low-light capability and Canon's swivel, live-LCD?

it's definitely cheaper than LX1 at launch, which was about 800+

At 688nett at AP, what else is included in the pkg?

Well, it's true that the color for the LX2 is bashed up by the VenusIII's NR...let's just hope that the petition to get pannie to revise the firmware gets attended to, and result in the provision of the turn-off option.

I have not tried the RAW...should do it today.
